Watch in the next few days and weeks the stream of bank failures around the globe. Lots of people are going to lose their jobs and our economy is going to be circling the bowl. Congress will get a bailout bill done because they have to. We aint seen nothin yet bois and girls... On another note, it's nice to see a special procecutor was appointed to investigate the firing of 9 Federal Prosecutors allegedly by the bush administration for political purposes. bush's lap dog gonzalez will get his in the end of this hopefully... d

Sara Palin's lack of understanding of foreign policy, and national issues in general are becoming more evident daily. She is in over her head and McCain should have known this... Do we want this guy forming a new government and serving 4 years as our president?! Call me crazy, but I think not. John McCain's "irratic" behavior (calling for the firing of the SEC chairman, suspending/restarting his campaign in a week, and refusing to debate at the last minute, then giving it a shot anyway) should give all of us pause. Even conservative columnists (George Will) are realizing this "team" is not up to the task... These republican candidates are a joke. Will the american public buy it again like they did in 2000 and '04? God help us if they do... d

Note rocks embedded in moat. I was up there Sunday morning 'bout 10:30am and observed considerable rockfall down this route. Ultimately, I wasn't feeling lucky enough to complete this part of the climb at that time... d

Palin's kid bein knocked up is nobody's business. It's a family thing, and has no bearing on qualifications to be a heartbeat away from the presidency for her mom... d

The association appears to have been limited. They shared time on a board that does a lot of good for their (and other) communities. The guy ended up being a supporter. Note that the charges against this person were dropped per prosecutorial misconduct. The man was not convicted of anything. Until he is convicted in a court of law for "blowing up innocent people" and/or "trying to blow up Federal buildings" let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Your use of the very popular "terrorism" phrase, and attaching it to this person is no more than an opinion based on what you have heard by way of the media and this board and carries no weight in a meaningful discussion. BTW, your attorney general recently stated that firing US Attorneys due to their political affiliation alone is not a crime... Crime is apparently subjective to this administration... I personally don't care who the next president is. Just ready for some kind of change at the top. d

"As far as Dougs statement that will the voters be swayed, unfortunatly yes." "We" don't have to be, if "we" at least make the effort to see through the bullshit. And, for the record, how many of us fine upstanding citizens are reflecting on some of the things we did 20 or 40 years ago and shaking our heads and wondering how we survived... The point being we're different people now, and deserve to be judged based on who we are now and what we may be doing for our respective communities, not to mention our country. d

An overarching question might be, are we going to fall prey to the swift boat liar/willy horton type of tactics polititians have used in the past to win elections at any cost? Can we be discerning enough to make the right choice this time? I guess, in the end analysis, anyone is better than bush. Given that, the upside to this election is overwhelming. d

Sounds like another unnecessary sign to me. Let the tourists find out for themselves that they don't belong down there. Not that there is a great debate about this here of course. I think was George Carlin who said it best, I'll attempt to paraphrase. Signs allow the stupid people to survive, and then they breed and make more stupid people. Be judicious with the signage. Please. d

I say we take a pass on the bush library. Store the "evidence" in an appropriate place for the trials and convictions... Then burn em. d

1) Edward's political career is DOA. 2) Polititians are human & make mistakes both sides of the isle. 3) Anyone that uses phrases such as "libtards" has no credibility JMHO d

Saw Jim O out at the Beacon today. It'd been a lot of years. He was testing out his back and that went well for him. Was great to see him. He talked about us doing "the corner" out there some weekend soon... Time to dust off the fire's I guess d

pwelco, Nice job and thanks for posting the pics. Mt and Jeff Park glacier looks much different than when I was looking at it last Nov for sure. Wonder what the weather was like this weekend out there. your Pics taken last week? d -
I will not participate in second guessing the man's decision on climbing this mountain. I must admit I was surprised by, but very much appreciated Fairweather's poignant post. Well said indeed... I'll be back on one of those cascade "slag piles" very soon, with my helmet on, taking my chances like I have for many years, and I'll take time to think of Dr Lee and his family as well... d

Most of the time, you don't hear those rocks rolling down the snow slopes... One of those silent but deadly bastards almost took me out late last year. These warm temps including high overnight lows gives one pause. d

In my family, payback was a medevac... The kid that was messin with the log better sleep with one eye open... d

All we really have in the mountains to guide us in the end are our good instincts. Part of the challenge is having the discipline to know when to back of for sure. Trust your instincts and you'll have a better than even money chance to get your share of summits and live to be an old mountaineer with some cool memories. A little luck doesn't hurt either... d

Jesse Jackson should know better.

Todd, for what it's worth, IMHO, it was wise to remove the pic. It is the small kindnesses that can mean the most in this life. d

Mt Hood can be a zoo sometimes... Some people have no respect. Most of them are lucky. The others make headlines. d

I could easily think of worse ways to check out... d
