I couldn't agree more with this statement. The kind of free market model JayB's talking about requires two things: easily definable goods and services, and fluid, open information. The health care market has neither. The system is so complex that the administering companies can't even negotiate it, nevermind a consumer. We regularly get bills we don't owe, and mysterious refunds from our insurer. It's not just difficult for consumers, including companies, to compare costs...it's impossible. Furthermore, the very nature of providing health care to humans means in an infinity of complications and unknowns. Not only are there almost an unlimited array of goods and services involved, but those services can quickly expand when complications, which are never very predictable, happen.

So funny it and the requotes got scrubbed from the TR? There seemed to be a marked reduction in your TRs after that as well....whatever...as you say, no post, no proof. Where are the Truthers!!!!???? Perhaps you should start a separate thread about how my wife feels about my climbing. followed by a YouTube video, then a reality TV program contract. Would you mind giving me a photo with you wearing one of her bras for starters? I need some dirt if this is going to work. Those photos are available on the web. Subscription only.

This is probably the best approach. Look under Craigslist sporting section using a generic search term like "climbing" periodically. Not that much climbing gear is sold on Craigslist, so the list won't be very long. The perps have to get rid of it somehow; pawn shops don't buy climbing gear, and it's not exactly yard sale season right now. Craigslist would be the logical place. The hard part will be linking the perps to the actual burglary. If you find it on craigslist, you might want to get some advice from the cops before you pursue retrieving it. I'm the guy that found the stolen gear at a yard sale in Ballard and, sadly, even though I had the goods and linked them to the original owner, the cops could not link anyone in the house to the actual burglary. The result: no bust. At least the guy got his gear back, though. Also, notify the used gear shops in your area to be on the lookout. Good luck.

The current system is a maze of many insurers and many health care providers. A single payer system would create a single insurer and many (still private) health care providers. That should remove a great deal of administrative complexity and therefore overhead from the system. In addition, a single insurer would amortize the costs of more expensive procedures over the largest number of those covered, and maximize the bargaining power of the insurer. Theoretically speaking, of course. Even the simplest system can be screwed up in implementation.

So this is tongue in cheek? Or is this an effort to change my opinion? Or am I not supposed to care about this post? Help me out here, my "intellect" is failing me. I help you out here: ignore it.

Ummm....I don't know of many posters here that have had a TR hijacked by someone claiming to be their wife, posting under their avatar, and bitching about how much climbing they were doing.....wish I would have copied that classic bit before the mods scrubbed it...but thanks anyways O' oracle of marital advice You apparently missed the intended humor in my wife's post, my earnest little young republican, but then again, you miss most humor. Oh well, as you said, no post, no proof, eh?

My motorcycle got pushed around a bit by the wind. I was paralyzed with fear.

You're absolutely right. I'm deeply predjudiced against Afghans (the dog) and Floridians (the voters).

Perhaps, in a hundred years or so, we can repopulate.

I got nothin'...and that one I'd remember." You still haven't got this one: "It's a good deal! A good deal...for me!"

This has got to be the Spray equivalent of a strategic nuclear strike.

There is a danger, however, that the government might be less inclined than the private sector to prescribe pain medication.

i don't have one (green card). that leaves you with your dirty ass- just like your mom- beyotch! Note the 'euro' in 'euro shitsack'. If GGK were, by random chance, black, Shitfeather's term would have been '*'. If he were a woman.... Racism, misogyny, it's really all the same sentiment.

got to blame it on the wife. Climbing in Switzy and Dolomites beats the North Cascades and she knows I would climb more if I lived there. More choices. Better rock. Better access. To KKKY it's blaming your wife. To the rest of us it's simply respecting what's important to your wife.

I've been pretty impressed by the efficiency of a lot of government services. Licensing. Permitting (at least in my projects, which have been relatively straightforward), even the IRS (although I have't done this experiment, try not paying your taxes one year and see how efficient they can be). Most definitely emergency services, which are amazing. Limited government funding, political pressure, and mandated performance provides effective incentives for efficient operation.

I haven't decided yet if I would have had the surgery or not if I'd known about the cost. Wait until I can see the complete results of the work that was done and then I bet I will know the answer. In my case, there was no alternate procedure. The alternative would have been to continue living in constant pain, as I had for 8 years prior to having the work done. That said, I still don't know how the hell I'm going to pay for this. Shop around for the cost. Ask, "How much will this cost, and what do I get out of this?" In addition, don't just shop around in the US. See if going overseas to Singapore will benefit you too. I have heard of places like Singapore and Hong Kong that have US trained doctors. After you are done with the surgery, you get a 5 day vacation at the spa where you have the surgery. Find out how much it costs, talk to your insurance company and see if they would be willing to pay for your airfare too. Yes, this would be a very practical system for most Americans, especially since most plans require the selection of a primary care facility. "Get your procedures done in Singapore." Now why didn't the rest of us think of that?
