A couple of important same sex marriage rulings
tvashtarkatena replied to tvashtarkatena's topic in Spray
I am responding to the bullshit assertion that gov't has nothing to do with religious marriage ceremonies in the US If you and TTK want to tie the knot somewhere that'll take you, go for it! The assertion, you complete moron, was that religion is irrelevant to the same sex marriage issue. Should same sex marriages become legal nationwide (they will), those couples will be able to choose to marry in churches should they meet whatever requirements those sects have, or not...just like their hetero counterparts. -

Don't get me wrong, I actively encourage his postings LOL. The 'I'm not a bigot, but blacks have no sense of personal responsibility for their actions' post was priceless. -

Seems like he's arguing for getting the state out of the business of annointing "marriages" all together. Man and woman, two chicks, two dudes - everybody gets the same piece of paper. If you want your marriage blessed by whatever cult/deity/collective that's your business, not the state's. You've apparently contracted Nitrox's disorder. 'Marriage' IS a civil contract. Hence, you know, the term 'marriage license'. Religiosity is optional...and the state already doesn't give a shit about that component, other than to authorize church members (as it does secular folks) to perform the ceremony. Religion is irrelevant to both the court cases posted and this discussion in general. I would guess TrailerMan brought it up due to confusion and/or the undeniable urge to counter with something, anything, whenever I post. -

Does anyone here know what idea this idiot is trying to convey? -
It took you two days to come back with the standard ACLU line? It runs in the same vein as my comments on Glen Beck, if you really wanted "racism" to go away you'd make less of an issue out of it. But. you don't want racism to go away, it keeps race hustlers in power and it keeps the ACLU in money. It's little wonder why the crime rates are so high for blacks, they are constantly reminded that they are not responsible for their own actions because they are perpetual victims. Its been a long time since Jim Crow, minorities are afforded every opportunity (and more in some cases) than whites. The richest woman in the US and the President are black. I may not like Obama but he came from nothing and now look where he is, same goes for Oprah. Anyone who wants to blame "The Man" for his/her problems IS the problem. The very first person to bring up race was you TTK, a member of the ACLU. Its clear you wanted to make this about race and spark an argument. You're as predictable as ever throwing the race card. You should let the black community know that you've figured out what their problem is. Make sure you video the response for the rest of us LOL.

A couple of important same sex marriage rulings

Its interesting how the arguments against same sex marriage (and in support of DOMA) so unsuccessfully employed in these recent court cases mimmic, almost exactly, those used to deny mixed race couples the right to marry prior to the 60s. -

Prior to the passage of the federal Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 (DOMA), the feds deferred to the states regarding the legitimacy of marriage. Marriage laws vary widely state by state; if you were legally married in any particular state, the feds respected that marriage as valid. By way of example, if you were married at 14 in Alabama (still legal) and moved to a state where 16 was the minimum age, the marriage was considered valid and the couple protected from statutory rape prosecution. DOMA attempted to change that 230+ year tradition by denying same sex marriage rights, even if those marriages are performed in states that allow them. Fortunately for those interested in equality and fairness, DOMA is being struck down in court bit by bit. Contrary to the misconceptions promulgated by its shrill supporters, this represents a return to the status quo, not some new 'gay' world order. There are over 1000 rights conferred to people who are married; visitation rights, property transference and ownership, tax considerations, parental, and on and on. Contrary to social conservative rhetoric about 'special rights', the movement to legalize same sex marriage seeks only to confer the exact same rights long afforded to hetero married couples to all committed couples who wish to enter into a marriage contract. Also, the idea that churches will be 'forced' to marry same sex couples is part of an intentional misinformation campaign to whip up support from the religious right. The idea is as ridiculous as an atheist ex catholic such as myself, 'forcing' the Catholic church to marry me. Marriage is a secular contract; the state recognizes no religious component to it with regards to the rights or legal status conferred. Same sex marriage laws do nothing to erode an individual church's requirements for religious marriage within its congregation. -

The more you post, the dumber you get. Try learning something about the topics you comment on sometime. You won't, I know, but Jesus, get the basics right, at least. -
Nice of you to display the brilliance and self-centered whiteness which claims that Native Americans are not discriminated against. They'll be happy to hear that they are getting a fair shake in the white mans court room, finally. Bigot. http://www.vpc.org/studies/blackhomicide10.pdf As far as the black thing goes, no one has explained why their murder rates are so much higher than whites. Is that that we prosecute them but not white people? No. I mentioned in my original post that the 3:1 pattern of discrimination already took into account the higher crime rate amongst blacks. Look, I know you're generous with your expert opinions on just about everything posted on this site (I personally enjoy your delightful whore anecdotes...hopefully more than your wife does, and the snuff photos really add to the quality of content here as well), but you might try reading a post before you comment on it for once. Probably won't help though...I'm not sure anything really happens after the words pass through your eyeballs. It's true that there is also a pattern of discrimination against native Americans...that much smaller ethnic group wasn't listed in Nitrox's reply, however, so I didn't respond to it.

So do the American Indians, Chinese, Irish, Japanese, Italians, Poles, etc. Which group should get top billing for the liberal great white guilt extra special citizen rights? White People. Once again, Nitrox shows his true 'colors'. When faced with a proven (in court, in the DOC stats, in studies) pattern of massive discrimination against blacks, and only blacks, in the criminal justice system, all he can come up with is the bigot's boilerplate: 'special rights, white guilt'. Poor ethics, even poorer originality.

Beck is an entertainer, he says whatever he thinks will get his audience to come back. Strangely, conservatives and liberals alike keep coming back for more. His competitors seam to even hang on his every last word. Yup. If someone really hated Beck the best way to get even with him would be to completely ignore him. Talking about him simply drives traffic to his show and his advertisers by extension (who pay for him to be on). People call Beck crazy but he is at the top of his game and dwarf liberal personalities like Madow and Olbermann in ratings. I personally find the entire category boring and hypocritical. Yup.

Chatting with Vishnu in India right now. Sure wish I could find an internet security suite that doesn't result in the blue screen of death.

Anytime there's a riot officials attempt to minimize the legitimacy of the community's anger by blaming 'outside anarchists'. Blacks across this country have a well documented, proven-in-court reason to be very, very pissed off about the long term, systemic discrimination in our criminal justice system. I'd be interesting in hearing Serenity et al's opinion on that particular issue.
-
The rioters got us white boyz talking about Oakland police brutality way up here in Seattle, so they must not be all that retarded. Ten years of singing kumbaya non-stop would not have achieved the same result. As for the 'anarchist' story...um...yeah, haven't heard THAT one before. You gotta love the '75%' stat. He should have made it an off number, like, say, '73%'...even more believable.
-
Blacks are 3 times more likely to be arrested, denied bail, convicted, and sentenced harshly than whites; a stat that far exceeds both the higher crime rate in black communities and their proportion of the general population. The 9th district court finally acknowledged this long term pattern of discrimination in a landmark case last year. What surprises me is that there hasn't been more rioting.

Damn. I'd love to, but I've got a meeting Sat morning I can't miss. Thanks for the invite, though. Keep me on the list. -
If you get fired for "illegal browser", somehow I think there might be other rationales in play. It's amazing how willing folks are to hand their balls over to a corporation...even when the corporation doesn't want them.
