The great thing about I26 was that it showed the rest of the country, in no uncertain terms, just how far into the Krazy Zone the Kristians are willing to take our country. Mississippians responded with a nice, big, steaming mug of Shut The Fuck Up.

I-502 isn't about who smokes and who doesn't: It's about reducing our 2.4 million person prison population (7 times greater than China, almost twice Russia's per capita), and the 3:1 discrimination against African Americans it represents.

MS's initiative was (relatively) resoundingly defeated in what is probably the most religiously conservative state in the country. I'd say things are looking pretty good right now. It's OK to celebrate a win, ya know! The Kristians will keep trying...probably with more watered down proposals, and we'll have to keep kicking them back to the Middle Ages where they belong. There are many indications that Kooky Soshal Konservatism, in general, has already seen its high water mark and is in rapid decline. There isn't a strong indication that today's SCOTUS would have ruled in favor of personhood at conception...but ya don't want to go there if you don't have to, of course.

Underage drinking has declined significantly among 12th graders, but not much among younger kids since the 70s. NIH report on underage drinking I graduated in '77 and remember lots of kids dying or getting maimed in really bad drunk driving accidents. I hope that's changed.

I run into a lot of folks who keep their eyes peeled for just this kind of anomalous behavior so they can then paint the whole movement with it. These folks also tend to climb on the Weird Wagon - Truthing, Birthing, n Bitching...but they can be counted on to never do anything substantive in those efforts, either. It's all just a justification for doing lots of whining while sitting on their asses doing fuck all about anything. And that's a good thing: the rest of the folks in the movement don't have to listen to these kooks go on and on about their Psychotic Episode of the Week. Life is WAY easier without them in the room.

Dood, that's what the "medical dispensaries" are for. Duh. Not true. I-502 has nothing to do with the existing medical marijuana law (medical dispensaries still exist a legal gray area in WA, BTW). It requires the state to sell pot directly, not through dispensaries or other private entities.

boy did i not go to high school w/ you the main reason i'm for keeping shit the way it is w/ state run stores is we need to legalize weed - the public will need it's hand held during the transition process, and so state run liquor stores will be the most logical place to allow it - i'm fine w/ ditching state-run stores after that I-502 (legalize weed) only requires that the Liquor Control Board remains intact - which it does (to regulate the sale of liquor) under I-1183. So it's consistent to vote YES on 1183 and still support weed legalization.

Defeated! Thank you, Mississippians! Well done!

Ping pong balls!

Kind of weird, but on his website he raked TSA over the coals for posting a redacted version of their procedures that could easily be downloaded and unredacted (revealing sensitive procedural info to potential bad people)...then posted the unredacted version of same on his website to save them the trouble. I get the feeling that the site's more about titillation and gettin' freaky about air disasters than public service, but that's just me.

Thank god, cuz my health care sucks. Kinda thought that might be an exaggeration, but ya never know. That guy's site has some great air crash vids, BTW. Anyway, don't break a nail trying to find it. I have a feeling there's nothing there.

Whaddaya say about a guy who's idea of 'funny' is to rework an already suck one liner, then 'boost' it with a self referential ROFL? The poor wife....

I'm thinking my co-guest either might have gotten ahead of himself on that one or I need to get my hearing checked.

And how much time have you been spending in downtown LA, Prole? A fair bit, as a matter of fact. And now this: Adventures Abroad with Billcoe. Warning: This segment includes explicit use of ping pong balls and urine. Viewer discretion is advised.

Quite possibly the only reported case of 'death by iPad bludgeoning'.

BTW, PETN is one of the substances that full body scanners are NOT designed to detect. But question those scanners and YOU HATE AMERICA.

After reading about so many amateurish, botched terrorist plots, you come away realizing that the 911 perps were either really, really awesome or really, really lucky. Bombings are still fair game, but plane-as-missile attacks are done for good. Passengers have become a wee bit more 'activist' in that regard ever since they realized that 'landing' has been omitted from the agenda.

It seems fairly obvious to me that the concept of 'personhood at conception' is entirely religiously based (it's certainly not based on any science of cognition or human development), and therefore a clear violation of the Establishment Clause. Fighting Kristian totalitarianism in this country, however, is no easy task.

An interesting discussion on when 'personhood' begins

If it passes, the ACLU will immediately challenge it. If you think about it, such a draconian law is about as good as it gets for defending Roe V. Wade. With today's SCOTUS, though, there's no way to avoid the fairly substantial risk of losing that case, regardless of how awesome your legal team is. What happens next depends on how sweeping the SCOTUS decision is. There is no small chance that SCOTUS will choose to avoid the issue and kick in on back to the States (this would not be an inconsistent with 'originalism' after all), which means Ole Miss will remain under Charia, but the rest of the states can go their own way on the issue. If, however, SCOTUS agrees that personhood begins at conception...we are ALL FUCKED.
