Simple gri gri mods for soloing that don't effect normal operation for belaying. My 'new, improved' version of similar ideas already out there. "Climbing is dangerous...blah blah blah". If you don't know what any of this is, it's probably not for you.

Gene had a cute little manufactured hammer/pick that worked so well I made one of my own, and added a spike to it. This system will get any pro out, no matter how stuck. My rack's practically doubled since I made this thing.

WTT Scarpa Mont Blanc 44.5 for 45 or LS Nepal 45.5
tvashtarkatena replied to Brian Luther's topic in The Yard Sale
Damn! That's exactly what I'm looking for, and in my size...but you really wouldn't want any of the manky boots in my collection for trade. All the best. -
People have asked me "So, you're a climber. You must like bungie jumping and stuff" "Nope" Incompetents like me get that experience for free.

Crevasse rescue is the one thing you won't learn on climbs so a course is a good idea. RMIs course has a good rep and promises a spectacular setting. Have fun.

Sound awesome, S. Thursday's lookin good for weather. Hope the rocks' not too drippy, but hey, it's aid.... -
Pretty inappropriate for the noob forum Rob, especially from someone whose climbing resume isn't much longer than the OPs. Weird comin from a bud too. I don't use prusiks anymore, BTW...got Tiblocs. Take comprehensive course. Mounties (cheap, volunteer instruction, more fuddy duddy) or guides (more expensive (per day at least) experienced professional instructors, more up to date info). Your partners will appreciate u coming to the table with some basic skills in hand, like crevasse rescue, etc. That way you can just show up and climb. You won't learn things like crevasse rescue just climbing with folks, even experienced ones.
-
Probably best to listen to folks who've actually taken Mounties courses re the quality of said courses Have u rob? I kinda doubt u could pull somebody out of a crevasse if required. Yes the Mounties are super safe nerdy and don't always teach the absolute latest speed ascent techniques but they are still a great place to start. Climbing w experienced folks is still a necessay supplement but it's nice to have some basic skills under your belt taught in a course so those partners who generally will not have the spare time don't have to teach u. I don't recommend actually going on many Mounties climbs though. Find a few good partners n let er rip.

Ivan didn't trash the place with party balloons. I don't know what he was talking about. I plan on getting the rope. Ivan can speak for Ivan but I left out the rope information on purpose because I plan on retrieving it. I don't leave trash and if there was any I would have picked it up. And I do take offense. ignore a shit streak and it eventually flakes off -

I musta smash and grabbed a case of couch lice while over at nwhikers. Sorry guyz. Shoulda worn a balloon. -
The Mountaineers offer an comprehensive climbing course. It's fairly inexpensive, but taught by volunteers, so the quality of instruction can vary. Good way to meet folks and break the ice. I believe it starts in Jan, however. There are various local chapters, so you may be able to sign on to Everett's course rather than the more crowded Seattle chapter. Google and give em a ring. You can find partners here, too, of course. Pretty good spot for that. Somebody around here will weigh in with some shorter courses taught by guides. Instruction quality there is good, and the scheduling more convenient, usually.

Good ideas JH. That should keep me busy for a while. Still need to snag some larger offset nuts and crap out some $$$ for a few smaller offset cams at some point. Looks like OK wetter mid next week. -

I have, but I just got set up for soloing (and TC is where I'm gonna start). There are a lot of great aid routes out there, but some are better than others for parties of one. Green Dragon would be next on the list. Convenient commute between the two. I need to get my fat ass up stuff faster if I'm gonna be of any use on longer routes other than as a haul monkey. -
Time for some laps. Let's hear your faves...

Just stay in the tent and you'll be fine. -
The end goal should not be to add or take corporate money out of politics. That is an abstraction. Rather, it should be the greatest public good - a healthier, more sustainable environment, innovative and responsive business climate, high employment, social justice, and an adequate safety net for those in need. Good stewardship of our environment, democracy, and economy. You don't hear those themes much from the today's self described 'conservatives'. No...not so much at all.
