Are you talking about public employee pension funds? Most of them are not funded by tax dollars.

+1 on safety kit. I never enter the mountains without it. Safety first.

How did I miss this important thread? Re: online dating: Please watch this important clip. [video:youtube]74TsLWXTLOE

civil war, right?

Oh god, not another one of those "income tax deniers." They're dumber than the truthers. http://www.bargaineering.com/articles/what-law-requires-us-to-pay-taxes.html

"doing it for the money" is an expression. McDonald's employees get paid, too, but I doubt they're "doing it for the money."

But at least I won't get athlete's foot.

I was proud of myself for taking my 401K out of stocks and putting it all into money markets several years ago, before the collapse. I thought I was all clever, cause I saw it coming, and for several years I gloated when I heard about people's 401K's going down. Not Me! I would say. But, several years later, all those funds have since rebounded. I would have gained 7% if I had just stayed put. Ooops!

strangely, the people who want the rich to get tax breaks are not actually rich, themselves. Isn't it weird?

Did you know that "voting" actually comes from the latin word, "voterous," which means "fooling the public." So that proves it!

well, he sounds muslim. Book him, Stanko!

Dude, Larry. How high are you? You don't even seem to care that only 50% of our electorate EVEN BOTHERED TO VOTE. Instead, you blather on about some vast conspiracy involving rigging elections. You've been hanging out with Bill and Kevbone too long. If they were going to rig the election, why would they have made it so close? I suppose you think 9/11 was an inside job, too. It's apathetic voters like you that cause all this bullshit. You know who is supposed to hold the government accountable? YOU. With your vote. What have you done to try to change the system, Larry? I mean, other than rambling (somewhat incoherently) about conspiracy theories and how the votes are all rigged, anyway. YES, it absolutely is our fault for the government we have. We are not Egypt. We have the power to legally affect change, and the avenues for doing so are right there for you. So do something, instead of moping about how none of this is our fault, we're all victims, waah waah. Sack up! What do you suggest as an alternative? How would Facebook and Twitter solve this problem? I'm curious what your suggestions are.

oops, the hanging Chad, sorry Gore, you lose. Ooh, perfect example, thanks. That election might not have been so close if more people had turned out to vote. That year's voter turnout was just over 50%. Think about that: only 25% of voting-age citizens bothered to show up to vote for Gore. And so Bush weasled his way in. Sad. If only more people had decided to make their voices heard in the ballot box, instead of moping around apathetically, the last 10 years might have been very, very different.

Thanks for all the hardwork you guys do, and for putting up with people like me. I Love CC.com. It has been the single greatest local resource for me. One day, I'll even start climbing again!
-
thx for the reco. Great movie! I wish I hda led half the life those guys did.

If you're planning on finding partners on CC.com, just post trip reports and chat with people. Either way, most people will want to do something mellow with a total stranger before taking on a big objective, so I'm not sure it actually matters that much.

I'm pretty sure I wasn't flaming you. Actually, I don't think ANYBODY has been flaming you. And to be fair, unless you are being dishonest about your experience, Mt. Adams is WELL below your skill set. Incidentally, I don't remember recommending you do anything "well above" your comfort zone. In fact, I would have been happy to have provided additional routes which you might have found more interesting, given your experiences and ambitions. I was trying to give you the benefit of my local experience, to help you have a better experience in the PNW -- and you threw back in my face, and then cried about being "flamed." Anyway, I hope you have a good trip. Mt. Adams has some nice views.
-
"advice." Hmm. I'm not advocating you do a "more dangerous" mountain, I'm advocating you pick an objective that will teach you something. It sounds like Mt. Adams is well within your abilities. It's an awful long trip and I'm just trying to save you some disappointment, but if you want to sound like an ungrateful, know-it-all prick to someone bothering to take time to answer your question, be my guest. What do you think you're going to learn on Mt. Adams that you couldn't learn in the White Mountains? What interested you about Adams, other than the altitude? If you're going to come ALL THE WAY out here, there are better options. But it sounds like you already have it all figured out. Cheers!

Cut spending on the poor and middle class, and give all that extra money to the rich in the form of tax breaks. What's not to love about that plan? Now, just dress it up in teabaggery and Atlas Shrugged verbage, and voila! Brilliant!
-
I like Gov. Daniels WAY more than Christie. Christie is a dumb fuck. At least Daniels cuts spending AND raises (some) taxes. He at least tried to (temporarily) raise the income tax on the rich in his state.

Why is your next step to graduate to "something over 10,000 feet?" Mt. Adams is really boring, and it sounds like you already know how to walk uphill on snow. If I was going to fly all the way to Washington from Maine, Mt. Adams would NOT be my climb of choice, ESPECIALLY if I wanted to learn "alpine climbing."

Ironic that somebody who admires the protesters across the world demanding in one voice something so simple as the right to vote, would belittle our ballot box in the same breath.
