Fantastic pics ryanl. Thanks for taking the time to post them. Its such a great area. -
Hmmm, you're right. I guess I got all frothy mouthed as soon as I read Gimli and and my brain stopped working. Ah well.

Good TR and pics here: http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/822881/Searchpage/1/Main/61461/Words/gimli/Search/true/Re_TR_Gimli_South_Ridge_7_26_2#Post822881 More good stuff here: http://lamountaineers.org/NAC/browserf/climbs/gimli/beta.htm Its on my tic list.

I'm just having some fun with you guys re: sissy/toque comment. 'bout the only thing I do wear one for though is for climbing rock or other steeps. Its a personal decision and I relish the freedom of making it myself.
-
Wearing a helmet for anything but the most extreme off piste skiing is for sissies. A toque with a tassel or pom pom has served me well for more than 40 years.

Hmmm. That was careless of me. Sorry. Still funny though. Imagine what the guy's son is thinking sitting there staring at pops?
-
Ditto. Great vicarious climbing over the holiday's. Thanks.

Bummer. I guess I'm going to be screwed out of the balance of my 2-year subscription (about 1 year left as I recall). Edit: Despite my pecuniary focus/loss, I too am saddened the climbing community will be losing such a fine rag. Been subscribing since ed. 12.

Nice work/very interesting Belle. Lot's of head scratchers like this one... "Fell 800 feet from Disappointment Cleaver. Tied together with a 25 foot rope with companion Patrick Hill. Neither of them were registered climbers, their outfits consisted of blue jeans and tennis shoes, as well as loose crampons." Wow.

That's a great little web site you have there Joe - nice pics. You should wait until the snow flys and try again - completely different vibe with snow/cold.

Nice TR Amar. -
Poor DM. Apparently came down from her perch recently; was promptly arrested; and then taken to hospital - probably for a shower.

Another British tabloid headline titled "Nice crevasse...shame about the rock face": http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2008/07/14/nice-crevasse-shame-about-the-rock-face-89520-20642964/ Cornball, but funny nonetheless.

Anyone been up North Ridge recently who can offer some current into re: route conditions; particularly regarding the approach through the crevasse field from Hogsback or above? I'd like to give it a go August 16th weekend. Thanks.

Stone Nudes redux - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2300313/Nude-climber-craze-tipped-to-take-over-Britain.html?DCMP=EMC-new_15072008 "Nude climbing has become popular among beginners and experienced adventurers alike. Its followers say it is the closest they can get to nature, while requiring none of the harnesses and ropes of the normal sport. One enthusiast has even taken to photographing participants, compiling the results into a calendar called Stone Nudes 2009 which, he says, is intended to "inspire and celebrate" the human form. The calendar, which he has been compiling for the past ten years, features black and white shots of perfectly-sculpted women scaling rock faces in the western United States. "This kind of climbing is the sport at its purest, intended to inspire and celebrate the human form," said California-based Dean Fidelman. "Hundreds of people are now participating in a sport that captures the true essence of the climbing sprit." The sport is the latest in a series of nudist adventure pursuits to sweep across America and is tipped to edge its way over to Britain. "It requires no equipment," added Mr Fidelman. "Which means climbers of all abilities can take part." The sport is the latest in a long line to to attract a nudist following. Nude hiking is the most common pursuit, but there is also a World Naked Bike Ride, naked wrestling, naked skating, bowling and yoga, while horticulturalists celebrate a World Naked Gardening Day."
