I do own the Patagonia R1 hoody and it is BOMB! (I got a gift certificate to their store and my GF said, "why don’t you buy that fucking shirt that you have been talking about for 2 years!") I have worn it cycling on days below 30 and been fine. The zipper was more that adequate on a 1.5 mile climb and operated smoothly for the descent. It has been used Skiing and climbing as well. Its performance was flawless! The hood does work well and the balaclava has surprisingly good peripheral vision. It is spendy but worth it.

I cant run, it hurts and cycling offers much more enjoyable training that humping a pack in the hills to train for humping packs in the hills.
-
i read once that running and cycling are almost identical for training biking longer distances in the same amount of time as running just feels better.

I just started biking (about 100 miles a week) A few questions: Is there a comperable website (to this one) for cycling (advive for sale ...etc) Do you find this combined with weights and real climbing is good training for some bigger (14k) peaks this summer? Do you wanna ride?

The US outdoor store of PDX has the kit http://www.usoutdoorstore.com/outlet/petzl-charlet-strap-kit-with-side-adjustment.html this is a kit to replace all of the straps on the crampons I have a pair of those and looked into it for plastic boots (the straps were not long enough)

I know, but I think that the others will still be usefull in varying lite conditions

I have a POLARIZED pair of smith slider style sunglasses that I use on my road bike. Three lenses: Clear, Amber and dark. I think that I will start using these in all but the brightese of summer snow conditions. Also, I burned my eyes when I was about 12 and they are still sensiative to light, so we will see how this goes.

so do you think that changeable sunglasses would be ok on low level terain in the winter? eg. the pass because there was a shit-ton of snow this last weekend
-
I was interested at what altitude (or prolonged exposture period) people stoped using sunglasses and started using regular sunglasses. The reason I am asking is that I had an AVY class this weekend on snoqualmie pass and all of the ski partolers and some of my class mates just wore changeable lense sunglasses. I wore my dorky glaicer glasses. I asked one of the guys when to stop wearing sunglasses and he said that at below 10K feet that normal sunglasses were ok because the sunlight is less intense. thoughts?
