    Death

More evidence that being alive leads to a high risk of death.
  3. kev, I'm happy for you that you enjoy seahawks/phil jones/shini, but it's just not everybody's thing. clearly it's not e-rock's thing. I gotta ignore when the avatar is disruptive, stupid, and antagonistic.
  4. I assume you've been generating a list of gear stores & websites. Only one I know of and didn't see is NorthernMountain.com, where I and my partner got our first rope and other stuff. Also, when you know what you want, Froogle is a great way to check out tons of online shops prices at once.
  5. Go easy on her, mattp. She's just being the mediator here. She's taking a stand between you and strippers. You should have known that was her location.
  6. Hey man, don't forget about the "ignore" button! I used it for the first time during the H**d aftermath and am about to do it again.
  7. The only place I've been with impressive mountains would be the Alps, but I would heartily recommend them, especially in Switzerland. What a wonderful place! Wish I was a climber when I visited.
  8. does anybody ever get my california raisins quotes?
  9. He was one bitter grapefruit.
  10. But Arch, how will I know if they just say "woman" that she wasn't a stripper in her spare time? You're destined to prevail in this
  11. wow! great question
  12. I can't help but notice that the only people who get referred to as their profession in these types of cases (and murder cases) are strippers and prostitutes. I never hear the victim get referred to as "the project manager" or "the engineer" if that happened to be the profession of the woman who was attacked. These are people, they are women. Please show a little respect. If they had a clown for entertainment at their party and an incident happened while he was being a clown at their party, he'd probably be referred to as the clown? Maybe at least? I think if she was a rape victim while just hanging out at home, she would not be called "the stripper." Just "the woman." Happened at school? "The student." I suspect people are generally kept in the context of their case and in this case, the stripper was her context. Maybe I'm wrong though, I don't pay that much attention.
  13. One point about the economy, especially the stock market, is that it's based on perceptions to a significant degree. Giving the perception of more consumer spending power by lowering taxes could have had enough of a mental impact on consumer confidence to make up for the clearly small impact it had on the actual amount of money in our pockets. Just some conjecture. A more scary thought... what's with this negative savings rate that's being reported? That CAN'T be good!!! Only a matter of time until we really do get a dramatic depression.
  14. Then you'd better keep an MLU on you at all times. Dying is NOT an option.
  15. I posted a grievance about Duke's treatment of the indicted players yesterday. Coincidence? I think not.
  16. That doesn't surprise me one bit. Who really thought that every cent of that extra money would find its way back to the federal government? Was that really the point anyway? The point was to increase the national debt and push down the value of the dollar, possibly in hopes of curbing the trade deficit. At least I hope that was the point because there wasn't much else it could have done.
  17. I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor.
  18. I'm sure you know avalanche danger is not determined by one factor, like the location of the slope. It's more about the snow layers than any specific area. There was one guy who came up on the climbers left of Crater Rock, but that's not how we went. Everywhere I stepped seemed reasonably stable, so I assume the left of CR was OK too, but you just have to evaluate that when you get there. I'm not sure if it's even steep enough since I've never been there. However, the WCR has definitely claimed lives due to avy so definitely watch your step after checking the avy forecast. You can actually see our footprints in the fourth picture if you look real close.
  19. no no no is there an echo?
  20. Readily seen implies an observer. Basically, you said [readily seen] conflicts are a product of our complex intelligence, and I expounded on what creates the [readily seen] conflict in the eyes of an observer. Either the "conflicted" person has not given thought to the conflict, or he/she has placed different values on the issues at stake than the values of the observer. Essentially, I was just clarifying that not everyone with apparently conflicting views holds those views because of complex thought.
  21. After Mt. Hood, we're quoting the media?
  22. Republicans for US Congress in 2006 as well?
  23. Yep, I drove over it myself. Should have taken pictures though, the "creek bed" looks like an unpaved graded highway since they removed tons of earth to get the elevation well below the bridge elevation. There was a similar but much smaller and less vertical step there last year around the same time, so I'm not sure if this is just an exaggerated form of normal or if it's way off the hook. Gotta talk to a real veteran about that one.
  24. I'm sure you're aware of this, but keep in mind even if lust happens, and even if the parents don't want the child, and even if they have it anyway, they can still put it up for adoption. Abortion is not the only way out of it.
  25. It was not oversimplification, I chose my words carefully. You even agreed with me. I mentioned giving different weight to the reasonS. Therefore your views are apparently conflicting to me because I weigh the issues behind each stance differently than you. This is different than if someone spouts two opinions that don't fit and doesn't give sufficient thought to the apparent conflict.
