Softshell by definition is not waterproof. Mine are!!!!!! Softshell refers more to the handling than any thing else, yes they can be waterproof.

using those straps.... seriously. Sometimes I strap the pons onto an ice axe to keep all those points of the pack fabric entirely, and just strap the axe on as I normally would.

Well there are 9.2mm skinny ropes that are also double rope rated. Personally think single ropes are easier and thus safer.

Go with the one that will fit what you want to use it for most of the time, also BTW you can strap a TON of stuff on one of these and the old Direttisima is on sale cheap all over the place and is bigger than the new one. I bought a new scrambler and will use the great straps of the old DT to strap it on the outside if I need a whole lot of volume.

Sport draws are CAMP Orbit wires on Petzl 12cm express draws, Trad are Mammut Moses ans CXamp Nanos on the bolt end on Petzl 12cm 10mm Dyuneema draws with the String S, loose biners and cams on the Mammut Moses, nuts and Hexes on DMM Spectre 2 biners, Mammut contact slings and Sterling 7mm cordelette with dry core.
