  1. Sounds like all hell is breaking loose over there.
  2. Aarond-that was a GREAT TR. What a fun read. Sounds like a great trip. Thanks for the post!

    Caption Please

    Hide and seek.
  4. And every body of water a llama crosses, small or large, they have to piss and shit in it! WTF!? My parents have llamas and goats. If I had to choose I'd take the goats. But even those little fuckers spar a lot with each other.
  5. My only point was that from all reports the guy was alone...COMPLETELY alone. Maybe I was the one that misunderstood Juan's question (if I did Juan, I apologize). I agree with you about the different kinds of soloing. I guess to me, it's context. I suppose you could say that two guys (or 3 or 4 or whatever) could "free-solo" anything. I would call that soloing. One guy, one crux, unroped. "I soloed the Eiger Norwand." "I soloed Mt. Defiance." It's all relative. And given the follow-up info we have about this cat, his friends bailed and he went up ALONE. Which in my judgement, on this route, on this day, may not have been a wise choice. Note to all: If I used this thread inappropriately to answer goatboy's question, I apologize. He and I should have started a new thread to discuss these issues.
  6. Nice work Harm. Thanks for the TR!
  7. Aha! That explains the PM. I had forgotten about this post. Thanks Keith! Nice work!
  8. Good read. Thanks gearbot.
  9. where did you read the misinformation? The steep part on the North Ridge is approx. 50 degrees. I don't think it's so much as misinformation as perhaps some confusion. Thomas' book refers to "the average gradient is less than 30 degrees." But then later refers to "a short (150 feet), steep (50 degrees) section on the North Ridge. Maybe that's what we're talking about here. I've climbed it both in February and in July, and I would agree that it can vary significantly in sketchiness between those two times. But either time was frankly a piece of cake. I enjoyed the February trip much more. Good job! Great TR!
  10. solo = not with anyone.
  11. I take along ANAM and read it in plain view of others at high camp. They react predictably. FWIW, FOTH is definitely a good reference. For awhile I hung onto all my editions of it. It became silly after while.
  12. Not even these ?

    Earthquake!

You'd think that piece of shit 2.7 was a major event with a huge death toll the way the local media dry-fucked it so hard.
  14. I love mullets.
  15. Good news about b-rock. Bad news about whoever it was. From KOIN news website: Either the guy fell from above the Spider (unlikely) or someone at these news organizations needs a copy of Oregon High.
  16. I love dogs. It's the occasional owner that has the love-me-love-my-dog attitude that I don't get.
  17. B-Rock was talking about going up to Snowdome today. I hope they stuck to their plan.
  18. What is challenging about a "6 day, mentally and physically challenging adventure..." That includes: ""Spa Level" rooms...spa treatments, yoga, nutritious gourmet meals and full time access to the private Summit Room for movies and snacks..." I say get them into a realistic harsh environment 100 miles from anything, work their fucking asses repeatedly into the ground and then after 30 days, give them chicken-scratched directions written on a stained cocktail napkin to the nearest airport. Make sure they sign a waiver of course!
  19. Garmin ETrex...simple, sub $100 and does what I need. I feel a little too connected to the outside world if I take too much technology out with me. I think someone even mentioned once that they were climbing with someone and they were taking waypoints at every minute turn and it was driving him crazy.
  20. Good point, but if cost is an issue, though he didn't specifically say so, Aztars are $35 ($70 for 2) less.
  21. I would argue that this is far less of an issue of liberal vs. conservative and more of an issue of a special (in this case a very special) interest getting their way. WE should ALL be outraged!
  22. Dru has a good point. I am using Aztars now and REALLY like them. They probably aren't as good for waterfalls and such, but they suit me just fine for steep alpine. Sidebar: after a couple (well several) beers the other night I climbed the side of my house with them! Tough to explain to sober non-climbers, but what the hell.
  23. Wow! Great TR...sounds very sketchy. Very nice work staying with it though. Can't wait to see the pics! [still can't see them!]
  24. C-cup. More than a mouthful is a waste!
