Cool!! I was trying some random words. When I search for "David" on your search engine, I get a lot of hits from the Cornell CS dept. Seems strange, as none of those folks (who's pages are hit) have anything climbing or outdoor related on their web pages. Any reason why cornell cs of all the places?? At the same time, the Mount David page on SummiPost is not hit in the first three pages of links output from your search engine.

Thanks for digging up the old TR and pics Wes! I didn't find it when I searched, but then Will did not mention anything about Lostine in his TR. The ice looks "healthier" in that TR, at least before it all fell down . What inspired us was the pics posted on the infinitymountain.com site. Looks like Robin has taken down the pics and info on Lostine since I found it just last Friday. The bottom portion looked super-fat in the pic(s) posted there - almost in WI2+ or WI3 conditions! The pics were apparently from Feb 3-4, 2007.

Fun times with Sobo!! In between the discussions on religion and politics, I gave him a bite from my home-made bagel sandwich (veggie, spicy, garlicy), and Sobo said it tasted no different from his barfs . Here are some pictures. Cinnamon rolls!! Sobo's ass wallowing in the wallowas: The climb. Should be more than 2 full pitches: The (nearly non-existent) crux. The ice was detached from the rock wall behind, and probably would not have taken screws. My balls are not big enough to climb that sucker: More ice waaaayy up the canyonside: It was my first visit to Enterprise (despite the proximity to my place), and I'll definitely be back. Hopefully, there will be another cold snap so that I can climb the ice without browning my undies.

+1. I PM-ed about boots and got no response.

Lostine Canyon OR??
pup_on_the_mountain replied to pup_on_the_mountain's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
Looks like 195 is open and in decent conditions as well (from the DOT web page). It has not snowed the last 2-3 days in this area, but has been windy as hell. And super warm. If we get a real cold snap following this warm spell, climbs along the Snake river should come in! -
Lostine Canyon OR??
pup_on_the_mountain replied to pup_on_the_mountain's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
Thanks Ryland! I was hoping you'll chime in. I'll be driving from Pullman, so it looks more like 3-3.5 hrs from my place. Yeah.. it will be nice to see ice like they have in the pictures. Thanks for the warning about avy danger, will be watchful out there. -
Has anyone been there for ice climbing recently? Any idea if stuff is in? Who here has climbed in this area before? I found this link. The pics are from last year, same time, and looks like there is plenty to do for a day for sure. The forecast for the weekend looks okay, i.e., not too warm (at least up in the canyon). Any one want to check out the climbs either Saturday or Sunday? Sobo, do you still have the penis pass available? I tried calling Steve at Terminal Gravity, but he was already gone for the day. The lady whom I spoke to said it has been quite cold in those areas recently (but she's not an ice climber). A search here brought up a single relevant post.

I'm tired of climbing in the Spray forum.

If I add my rack to Bill's rack, the change will be unnoticeable . Where is John (the gear whore) when we need him??

Goretex patches are expensive, as compared to say, nylon sticky patches for tent repair. I fixed a reasonably big tear in one of my BD gloves, just below the palm, using a tent repair patch. The hole was barely big enough to get a piece of the sticky patch inside (with the sticky surface facing out). I also backed the whole thing up with a thin layer of Seamgrip (marked for tent repair as well), before putting a patch from the outside on top of the hole. The patch by itself is not breathable, but its not like that will be preventing me from sending sick gnar.

Jamin? Is that (a new) you??? Where in Palouse are you located? You should meet up with the Alpine Club folks (at WSU). I've met several climbing partners through the Club, often more experienced than myself. You are more than welcome to join me/us on a trip, but I'm not claiming to be bad-ass. Unless the snow shuts the campus down again, we should be meeting this Thursday at 6 pm (In Webster B12). Let me know if you want more details.

I'm interested in the boots. Could you post or PM some pictures please?

Bluewood/Dayton Ice conditions??
pup_on_the_mountain replied to pup_on_the_mountain's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
May be a piece of beta from the local expert would've helped. Note the "1.1 miles past the Middle Point Ridge Trailhead parking area" tip. I missed it the last time on the way up as well, but found it on the way back from the parking lot at the ski area. The pullout is quite small -- has space for may be two cars. A group of 6-7 folks from WSU Alpine Club were there Saturday as well (not me, though). I hope things remain fat and cold for some more time -- I'll be looking to go there next weekend. -

NW Montana Ice (near Libby)
pup_on_the_mountain replied to pup_on_the_mountain's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
I went back Saturday... fat and blue, one minute approach . I was stoked to lead the main flow: I'll be back soon . -
Yes, but with a lot of trouble, and after several attempts at installing it. Went with the default installation options though. Should probably be easier/faster if you choose only the programs that you need.

Hey WC, how's the flu? Hope you're over it by now.

I jumped to the same conclusion as well.. really glad everything worked out alright RuMR! I remember getting lost in a busy market place when I was a kid (back in India). Once my parents found me, apart from feeling the biggest relief ever, I remember my father giving my ears a nice twist until I cried my lungs out. Of course, I learnt the lesson and never got lost again . Nn5jlrxcpkI

Bluewood/Dayton Ice conditions??
pup_on_the_mountain replied to pup_on_the_mountain's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
Thanks a ton for the update! I was actually waiting to hear from potential partners to go there tomorrow. I guess I'll stay home. At the same time, the highs are predicted to be in the 20s for the next few days. Hopefully, things will be in better shape in a week. I heard the road to the trailhead for Copper falls is in bad shape now. Instead of Copper, I'll just go to Libby. The road cuts there were a bit thinner from what was reported here a month back, but things should be in great shape in a few days from now. More than plenty to keep you occupied for a day (or two). Also, Chilco falls was in as seen on Saturday. -
Joe and I climbed some sweet lines on the Troy-Libby highway (Hwy 2) on Saturday. These routes are about 3 miles further (towards Troy) from the road cut ice. Park at the broad pullout on the riverside (at milepost 24). We climbed a 35m WI3+ route, and TR-ed a harder mixed line to the right on the same anchor. We then climbed a mixed route that possibly has not seen ascents before (local hardmen please chime in). I thought the route went at WI4 M4, but I'm not all that experienced to call the ratings (may be Joe will update the rating). The first pitch is around 55m, and is the harder one. Scramble almost a full rope length above the first pitch to climb 35 feet of fat WI3+ to finish the route on a tree anchor. After rapping the top pitch, We walked off skiers right. The first pitch (follow the rope): Joe at the crux. Ice on the left of him is quite thin, and hollow. Stem and chimney up the thing. I was happy not to fall here when following . The fat upper pitch (which we could see from the road). Thanks for the leads Joe! There are at least a few other lines (possibly unclimbed) out there. Can't beat the super-short approaches. I definitely want to go back!!

You probably meant Sherpa to the left and ice cliff in the center...

I can do Monday only.. let me know if you'll be looking for a partner for Monday. On the other hand, if you end up going with someone else for both days, I'd like to join you guys on Monday, if thats okay.

The original trip (as posted by WC) got cancelled.

Yeah.. its been super warm I guess. Here in Pullman, there are big pools of water everywhere. You can swim to class. I guess I'll have to drive farther then...
