  1. I'm driving and apparently organizing...check your pm's. I've still got room for one more after you. This is going to be a regular sausage fest! Weather is supposed to be great!
  2. Thats awesome! Thank You guys for doing this! As I become a better climber, I will start to give back as well. Right now, I have to limit myself to trail repair with the WTA....but it still helps. OK...here's hte dealio for anybody who I didn't get back to... We're meeting at the Bottom parking lot at Erie at 10:00 and we can carpool up. Not sure where we're climbing yet...I've never been there.
  3. Ok, so we've got 2 from the H'am, 2 from Pt. Townsend, myself, and maybe one other one from Seattle. I can take 4 in my car if anybody else wants to go. PM me.
  4. OMG Thats f%#$ing hilarious! What an ugly pen as well! So...did anybody buy it? I can't be bothered to go back and look.
  5. Sorry, I should have said...I'll be coming from Seattle. If its not too far, I can swing up to B'ham and pick you up. Baker though....thats not really a tough call, is it?
  6. Have to stay close to home in case I get called into work, but I'm headed to Mt. Erie on Sunday, if anyone wants to tag along. PM me.
  7. Isn't hanging and using the gear to pull yourself up technically cheating? I do it sometimes when I'm scared and because I'm a crappy climber but I've heard its a bad idea and I'm trying to stop....its sort of like a crutch. Sort of like going to your knees first when surfing....bad habit and hard ot break. Innit?
  8. I'm your girl....I'm slow and shitty as well and can follow whatever you lead as long as its 5.9 and under....I might be able to get out early from work or take the day off...PM me if you're still looking.
  9. Whats the grade and whats it rated? Is it suitable for newbies? I have an unused rope and draws as well....wouldn't mind trying them out. I do n't have a rack yet though....
  10. Attention Whore. tis true...its all about mememememememememe
  11. Hmmm...I thought you were an 'airbag'. Have you ever seen a broken bone sticking through the skin? Warning - Disgusting Picture (bone sticking through flesh) http://www.worldortho.com/database/exam-trauma/comp/76.jpg Mine looked a little like that except the bone was sticking out the other side.
  12. Dru, stop thinking of sausages.....u know the ones I mean.
  13. or wrapping around their ankle, flipping them upside down, and snappinig the ankle. owwww!
  14. Yeah, Micah was crying because he felt bad that he didn't prevent it. He's a big brother with 4 younger brothers (no, not my puppies) so he's got some experience here as well. He felt very badly that Mer got hurt. Ya know, I yelled the day before because the kids were playing with fire, literally...they knocked a burning stick off and set some pine needles on fire, which could have spread. I got branded a hard ass because I yelled at every kid within 10 feet of me...some wouldn't even speak to me for the rest of the day. I pointed out the sonsequences of what happens when you don't listen...and when you pllay with fire. My point is, if you weren't there and you aren't a parent, shut the fuck up....if you were there, then we all know that these things happen and everyone is justified in making their remarks. The kids were having fun....they were outside in the mountains climbing. There were 8 kids and 5 parents present at any given time. Could it have been prevented? How the Hell do I know. I feel badly that I didn't see it happen...I was belaying at the time. I have Micah's side of the story and Bugs side of the story and the other boys side of the story. None of them coroborate. I have no right whatsoever to pass judgement on anyone else. The point is, shit happens...its done and over.....we all learned a lesson from it, at least I hope we did. We can't go back in time. We're lucky that it was below Mer's eye and not in the eye. I'm sure that any of the boys there will not be throwing sticks anymore. I can guarantee that mine won't be anyways. In truth, this was an accident, not a malicious act from a 7 year old child. Please people, move on...theres nothing to see here. It was nice meeting everyone. We had a nice time....I got to hear how things are and my naive optimism is now more apparant to me than ever. We heard some great stories and learned alot. Micah and I still have a passionate enthusiasm for climbing...we're going to do more of it. I'm learning and training with my future climbing partner (until I'm replaced with the hot 18 year old). Mer's eye will be okay. Bug will cool down and a young boy learned a lesson. He felt badly for it as did his parents. Everyone else, hold your judgement...and stop beating a dead horse. Its done. Its over. See you next year.
  15. He's a salesman....he's trying to brainwash you into becoming one too...becoming one too...becoming one too...becomingone too....becomingonetoo....toooo.... So what kind of beer am I to bring? I'm making my shopping list now!
  16. Actually, Long's short chapter on falling talks exactly about how to avoid injury when falling. In short, stay relaxed and in control. Stay facing the rock to avoid tumbling. The point at the top of the thread was to avoid letting the rope get behind a leg when veering off to one direction when on lead (see the first picture.) If the climber were to fall, his right foot could be caught behind the rope and flip him over like the guy in the second picture. To avoid this, step back over the rope so that the ROPE is between you and the rock. It can feel awkward, and typically the rope doesn't do this on its own, but it's safer if you get in the habit of keeping the rope between you and the rock. The last two posts here are definitely right in line with my question. It is difficult, having not actually experienced this, to ask my question so that it makes sense to those I'm asking. and I apologize for that...it can't be helped. The context of this thread started off with a question about rope placement and falling....so I took it to the next level (if there is such a thing) and asked about rope placement and falling.
  17. We're going for the kids ropeup...Vantage was only a suggestion. We're hangin with the group either way so even if you don't like it, you're stuck with us! Ewww....smelly boys Am I still the only girl (old woman)?
  18. We're up for it. I'd like to get my 2 year old out there as well. I have a feeling he's gonna be a great un' Perhaps Ex 38 if its nice?
  19. yeah, thanks for that tomtom...real helpful.
  20. and I always thought he said "I just can't get it up...I just can't get it up..."
  21. me too
  22. I'll follow up in this thread with another question I was going to ask....it seems to fit here. So anyways, I've been reading Long's How to Rock Climb and he describes the different types of falls but doesn't go into as much detail as I'd like when he describes 1) How they happen, and 2) How to (hopefully) avoid injury when falling. Rope position and the positioning of your appendages seems to make a huge difference, at least according to the book. Can you guys take this one step further and tell us Newb the TYPES of falls, and HOW to take them, and WHEN they occur? Basically, just keep going with this thread Thanks!
  23. We're definitely NOT bailing...we're bringing bikes and fishin poles though, just in case
  24. Can they climb at Vantage? I've never been there.
