  1. apparently, if you're a Newbie, bashing the back of your hands until they are bloody and swollen with a 10lb frozen sea bass will help you to get ready for ice climbing.
  2. Thats your personal choice and everyone here respects it, I hope. I'm sure you do wear one when you are out climbing with your kids though....
  3. I've managed to round up 3 more people.... Dave Kitchell (my coworker) and his kids (neither have climbed before) Paul Kitchell Age 12 Anne Kitchell Age 8 I'm still working on the 'down south' group...no commitment there yet though.
  4. Can I get out of jail yet? I edited my reply, admitted it was thoughtless, apologized, and blew sunshine up his ass. I will still stand by my questions though....why post an accident report in the first place? Yes, to let people know...but why not use the opportunity to ask a couple of questions and maybe help prevent another one?

    Girl Repellent

Yeah... I wanted tell the story of my first real climb and about how terrified I was because my b/f is afraid of heights....that would have taken at least 5 minutes to tell about the whole weekend. I got shut down really quickly. "Let's hear about your weekend...the SHORT version." My response? "F*@k off! I had a great time!" What a jerk. Its not only women that can be uninterested in your activities...I think if you're passionate about something and your partner is not, after a while, they just get tired of hearing about it. There are some that don't however. More kudos ot the supportive ones, I say!
  7. Tim, I'd agree that there may be no right or wrong here, but there is certainly more safe and less safe. And I make judgements about climbers all the time based on how much avoidable risk they are exposing themselves to. There are times and places when not wearing a helmet is absolutely stupid. One thought...the more risk you, yourself take, is more risk that you are putting your climbing partners in, unless you're climbing solo.
  8. Since I'm the newbie...I'll bring the beer....AND rootbeer....whats everone want? is it appropriate to bring beer? i can't imagine it wouldn't be...these are a bunch of cc.comers ya know
  9. http://www.oregonsurf.com/html/surfspots_central.html
  10. I just thought it was funny. I think that so long as the same areas of the body are utilized, results will be pretty similar. As for a wife, a whiny non-climbing boyfriend might work out. I don't know where to find one of those, sorry. I've got one I'll donate to the cause Okay, since you opened the door....get THIS! We watched Touching the Void....and he actually FORBADE me to ice climb! Like...YAH...RIGHT...
  11. ig you get a chance, go up to Otter Rock....the surfing is better. Cannon Beach is beautiful but the waves are flat and you have to wait ages for them...Otter Rock is in a nice little cove wiht the E-W crossing it...you get pretty good waves and quite often...plus, its less crowded. Lincoln City surf shop has good deals on rentals...tell Mike (the owner) that you're friends with Nina and you might get a deal.
  12. Heh heh...this is really sad...I don't know how to lead! Soooo..that'd be a good thing I was also thinking about going out ot Exit 38 - Farside (Gritscone) and placing some top ropes for him to climb. I can just walk to the top etc. I'll PM you with my number. Maybe next weekend?
  13. I hate to say this...but it sounds like he could have died? He was damned lucky. I always wear a helmet. My question is, WHAT are the factors involved that caused this accident and HOW could it have been prevented? I know nothing about leading trad or anything else...but I can logically agree that those first few pieces are important. Having followed my first trad route last weekend, I got a good lesson on placing it, AND cleaning it. You guys did a good thing....perhaps the rest of us inexperienced climbers can learn from this?
  14. I have to rent too...the trade off is that you have to haul it with you....and do you have a wetsuit? Where are ya going? We're headed either to Lincoln City or Westport...depending on weather. I'd recommend a longboard, something over 8ft 6 or even 9 ft if its your first time. Go for the real fiberglass, not the styrofoam they try to sell you on for beginners....the styro boards will severely limit you and make you feel like you're riding a semi. You want something where you can actually feel the action of the wave but still maintain control PM me.
  15. never said I wanted a wife OR a testicle...now about that frozen sea bass...if I get it, you wanna do the pounding of the knuckles? I'm finally scabbed over from the weekend
  16. No, but it'd be easier to get than a wife or testicles
  17. But I don't have testicles or a wife...I'm a girl! The rest probably applies however....
  18. 3 I believe...he's a little guy...maybe 4 ft 2 and 65 lbs Thanks!
  19. Worth alot more than $0.02 if ya ask me! Thanks, guys....this is going to be an awesome trip. Next question...what do I need ot bring for my 10 year old? He has zero climbing gear but we can and will remedy that. Do I need a rope etc as well? What kind of climbing will THEY be doing? He's been ot the REI wall a couple of times...and I'll make sure to get him out to at least Marymoor before then...but he's inexperienced.
  20. OHHHHH YESSS you are! Admit it! RudyRudyRudyRudyRudyRudyRudy
  21. Guilt is now (mostly) gone.... Thanks!
  22. So noted...BUT....bringing the 2 year old could take away from the 10 year old's experience since I will be preoccupied with trying to keep the 2 year old in line. I guess I feel that each child should get alone time with each parent equally, and since 2 year old monopolize the attention of the parent, the older child often feels cheated. I would like to be a part of the 10 year olds climbing experiance....the 2 year old will get his chance. Do you disagree? Do you do everything together or do you give your children separate Dad n me time? I feel that it is important to spend quality time with each child separately, as well as together. Mempries are created and I'd like my 10 year old to have times that he remembers when its ust US on an adventure....same thing goes with the 2 year old. Perhaps we just have different approaches to parenting. I'd like to hear what Hilweasel, Bug and Billygoat have to say in this matter. Thanks for the response though....I respect your opinion.
