  1. Soft shell pants simply kick ass for everything!! Well except Smith in the Summer. Also, have you seen some of the newer hybrid softshells? Waterproof/breathable for the hood and shoulders and outer arms, soft shell material through the chest and back. (Acteryx Javelin, REI Taku ) Do a pretty good job balancing things. and i've had mine out in the rain a bunch. Not quite enough for a downpour, but if it's a downpour I'm hiking out anyway... Don't really take my hardshell anymore unless it's an extended trip somewhere.
  2. Last year I told Garth about thin metal on cold shuts on Block Head. He went and replaced them with chain. After one season, they were worn half-way through. That's a lot of lowering! Don't you mean tension assisted toproping?

    A Parable

Or: "Don't brag to the big dogs about chasin' pussy when the mere thought of it makes you piss yourself." this may be PotD Truly! Has my vote!
  4. stoopid wanker. That's what you get for going to a minnesotan climbing sight.
  5. wtf? source please. Somehow I can't imagine enough bio-diesel has been burned in the history of the world to do jack shit.
  6. Keep us updated on the small splitter designs in the small Trango's. I've been curious how they preform. Also, do they sacrifice much range do to the configuration?

    Single/Married

Don't be dissin' double-duty hermaphrodites! might bring a whole new meaning to the expresion "Go screw yourself?"
  9. well there is that nice flat spot on top of the western most one with the big overhang?
  10. My word your'e all touchy today! We are in spray aren't we?
  11. Must admit that's pretty good!
  12. Nope, she's actually going into OB-GYN so no more ER for her. That was just from her ER rotation a couple of years ago. ... point is you can probably save more lives by enforcing/encouraging seat belt wearing than by say, enforcing homeland security in washington.
  13. I was a first responder on an accident scene several years ago involving a role over with three guys in the car, none of whome were wearing their seatbelts. 1 was thrown clear, managed not to get run over (we were on I-90 outside of spokane). Of course his buddy was also thrown out, dragged under the car, and we had to proceed to lift it off his head. He recovered eventually after 5 or 6 months in the hospital. If nothing else my sister (the brand new Dr. after last weekend ) tells me the ER people are mean to you if you don't wear a seatbelt or a bike helmet They'll treat, but it may be a little extra unpleasant
  14. Good for you Marie! Your the kind of people I want owning a gun. Responsible, safe, and intelligent. Me? I'd probably shoot myself in the ass since I have no idea what i'm doing, I don't want me owning a gun. Now, very serious question. Would a background check, a short waiting period, mandatory safety classes, or a requirement that cars, or airplanes, oops I mean guns be provided with trigger locks have made a difference? The big difference between guns and climbing is that i'm not very likely to kill anyone other than me and my climbing partner if I screw up a cam placement, and it's his own damn fault for climbing with me. Big things that can kill other people are another story.
  15. Huh CBS? You want to pay more to pull plastic?
  16. actually read an interesting analysis looking at small cams and high factor falls, and they basically concluded that for the little ones, the failur mechanism isn't actually the cam pulling in the typical sense, but literally shearing off the metal in contact with the rock. So running it out on little blue TCU's right off the belay, says the guy who ran it out a little on blue TCU past the belay last weekend....

I don't think it is related.

    Summer. Fuckineh.

would you like the obvious answer? Because they both depend on how long it takes to go around the sun
  19. You spelled that wrong. It should be misunderestimate, phhtt, come onget it right buddy.
  20. If you use about 5 or 6 inches it does a little better job keeping it off the jimmies. But totally safe, and every tie in point is full strength Just like some of the fancy new harnesses!

    Summer. Fuckineh.

The solstice has nothing to do with how close we are to the sun. It's a function of the tilt of the planet relative to the suns location. At the solstice, the axis of rotation is parallel to the orbital path. During the Northern Hemispheres winter the North Poles end of the axis points away from the sun, and during our summer it points towards the sun. Perigee and Apogee (when the planet is closest and furtherst away from the sun.) are something else entirely. Though I don't know if were getting closer or further away at the moment
  22. oooh, nice choice. That's a very cool route. Have you already done Lions Jaw?
  23. DMM stuff kicks butt! The cams have a nice action, are lightweight, durable, U-stem which I like (less squirely then the single stem, though the C4's do have a better trigger system than the old camalots), the extendable slings are also quite nice. However I don't really like the small sizes (below 1). The trigger action is a bit soft for me. So for the small cam's Metolius TCU's are nice. And the old style DMM Wallnuts ! Nice and secure where other stuff is wiggly. If your on a budget though you might look into the new Trangos or Rock Empires. www.gearexpress.com and www.pagangear.com are both pretty good sites. Pagan Gear has some outrageously cheap, cams right now and they throw in free keylock biners with each one.
