2nd Amendment freedoms restored in National Parks?
KaskadskyjKozak replied to Fairweather's topic in Spray
Sorry to spoil your day there, Halifax. I took Fairweather's bait and I shudda known better. I do think our various interpretations of the Bill of Rights are worthy of discussion, though. there were already lots of good points in the thread. we have a constitutional right to bear arms, and there are limitations to that right. is one valid limitation to prohibit firearms in NPs? I think so - but several folks here don't. -

Huh? Someone is posting under the influence (PUI) Are you two really that dense? Matt made two baseless accusations against FW just for the hell of it. Then he tried to explain away the accusations "I think you said you did that". Lame. My question was meant to illustrate that - hey, let's make up something totally random, and accuse YOU of it. How would YOU feel? -

There's that reading comprehension problem again. I wrote "I THINK he has done both." I knew and indicated that I wasn't sure. And he's corrected me - so now his reputation for honesty and obeying the law remains intact. Matt, I THINK you batter women. Care to comment on that? -

what about it? my take is people like you discount the language of the 2nd amendment while trying to make the 1st and 4th amendment mean anything under the sun. that's inconsistent. i personally am consistent. the amendments are not absolute. just as you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theatrer, you can not own or use a firearm without some restrictions. -

????? Personally I have owned a national park pass + golden eagle sticker every year since 2002, and have never violated rules about riding a bike on a trail where it is prohibited, so if you are accusing me, then f-off, dude -

If the ranchers on public lands don't like the nasty bison maybe they should get the fuck out of the ranching business and let us do what we want with our land? those ranchers should be collectivized. and liquidated. -

And the accusations of divisiveness are usually accompanied by a tirade of divisive rhetoric. Oh the irony.

you need to read more attentively, jump to conclusions less, and cease falsely attributing positions and beliefs to people -
I have heard nothing but divisive, hateful, alienating, disrespectful rhetoric from the left since my early childhood memories in the 1970's. To blame the R's exclusively for the divisions in our nation is utter bullshit. The D's have been using divisive rhetoric both for their own political ends and just out of hatred and spite at least as much as the R's, if not more.

Kevbone....you proud of that??? Maybe this site could sponsor a voluntary register of pot-heads so there aren't any unwanted surprises. Joint-puffers can get together and smoke-out in the Muir hut or on their favorite belay ledge and not piss anyone off, and those who want nothing to do with it can add their names to the "do not smoke around me" list. I'll be the first to add my name to the latter list: I don't want your weed in your pack in my car, in your pocket or your mouth when you're climbing with me, or lit anywhere within ten feet of me on any occasion. Or any other kind of smokable product for that matter. I recall the early days of the cc.com "pub club". Someone at the communal table would say "Safety Break" and 2/3rds of the climbers would disappear for about 15 minutes. I got curious once and saw a bunch of coughing folks coming out of the back of some guy's van, just like in a Cheech & Chong movie. Whatever. "We tried it, but we never inhaled. Belay on!" Dude, it's totally cool that you don't smoke. Right on. But what do you care if others do? Live your own life. You're not automatically right just because it's your opinion. he's no different than the other self-righteous people on this site with opinions on "better living" (and no, I'm not talking about you)

Yeah, that's it. So simple.

gee, you're so convincing.

this is the biggest bullshit i have read this week. plain untrue and dangerously stupid. you'd know bullshit well since you're so full of it. ditto for stupidity.

I think your view is cynical. People are receptive to change, but a lot of it is in the way the message is presented. Calling people redneck, red-stater, bible-thumping, selfish, hicks who shit on the planet is not going to get anyone to listen to you. Also, changes of this magnitude will take time, and require patience. It took 40-50 years for us to go from the thrify, modest-living "greatest generation" to wasteful, over-the-top consumer-crazed people. But there is some truth to what you say. I would like to see our politicians tell the American people more of what they NEED to hear rather than what they WANT to hear, more often. Even if it causes the politicians to be run out of office every time after one term. Remember Carter's malaise speech? Look at this part: " I'm asking you for your good and for your nation's security to take no unnecessary trips, to use carpools or public transportation whenever you can, to park your car one extra day per week, to obey the speed limit, and to set your thermostats to save fuel." It's very a propos today. Use the bully pulpit for this - and the senate floor, rather than arguing stupid shit endlessly - like whether Roger Clemens took steroids, and if we need guns in our national parks.
