  1. Anyone want to get out on some rock before summer ends?  I’ve been home with baby and doing easier stuff this summer but can probably still lead most 5.10 sport or 5.9+ trad.  Would love to get a moderate alpine climb (maybe mountain loop or the new Snoqualmie sport climbs but could also crag.  Probably just a day climb if we haven’t climbed before.
     Cheers, Stewart

Maaaaybe. I'll check with my partner from that climb to see if he minds. It was a bit of an epic, so you know how that can go with tell-all reports 🤣

No one wants to read a TR about how badass you are and everything went even better than planned!  I submit my own TRs as evidence.  😝

Humpback on Saturday was a decidedly Great Ski Day. Lots of smiles.

Looks great, I’ve been meaning to ski that, did you park at the new sno park (Anetter Lake) or could you get farther?

  4. Like kids under 2?  Our son is 6 months old.  I guess we are a little late to the game since most of our friends have kids 3-tween or have decided not the reproduce.

The first camp has different capabilities for family adventures since kids want to do stuff too, and it’s not always that much fun for us since ours can’t really ride the magic carpet or climb the kiddie wall.  We could go xc ski with the trailer or snowshoe with him and do 5-8 miles pretty easily but that’s way to far for the others.

Most of my non-kid friends (that still climb/ski) are in better shape and still want to go hard on the weekends so not interested in having an infant along.

Anyone else out there in the in-between?  My wife and I have been getting out together a lot but it would be nice to have a bigger crew that wants to tow babies, split lift tickets, or boulder.  We have a bunch of new PEPS friends but we seem to be the far outlier for going outside with our kid.

Anyone want to adventure?  Advice from others who have been through this?  It just feels isolating and hard to motivate to stay fit.

Just read this for the first time.  Two -and-a-half years later how did your recovery work out?

Thanks for asking, I’m just really lucky with the breaks as they may be, hah.  I had a neck collar for too many months and I was able to start some light PT at three.  I was back doing easy too ropes in the gym and xc skiing in 6 months and am pretty much back where I was now.  Any new lack of fitness and aches and pains I blame on becoming a dad.

With a seven vertebrae fusion I surprisingly don’t notice much in limited mobility since the thoracic spine doesn’t move as much anyways.  I can’t look behind me as far as I used to without turning my upper body but I only notice that when biking and checking on a rider right behind me.

I was able to get back out in August of 2021 to try again and approached up Mt. Tom creek.  Due to other party limitations, weather, and difficult terrain we ended up just cresting the ridge near Hoh Peak and then dropping down to Dragon Lake.  Dragon Lake had been on my list forever so that was super cool but I still need to get up that ridge on Mt. Tom.  Thinking about trying again this summer up the S. Fork of the Hoh to Hoh Peak and then up the ridge to Tom and maybe Lake of the Gods and out Falls Creek.  We’ll see!
