DID YOU ENJOY THE SPIT???

You are the Haughty Intellectual. You are a very rational person, emphasizing logic over emotion, and you are also rather arrogant and self-aggrandizing. You probably think of yourself as an intellectual, and you would like everyone to know it. Not only that, but you also tend to look down on others, thinking yourself better than them. You could possibly have an unhealthy obsession with yourself as well, thus causing everyone to hate you for being such an elitist twat. On top of all that, you are also introverted and gentle. This means that you are just a quiet thinker who wants fame and recognition, in all likelihood. Like so many countless pseudo-intellectuals swarming around vacuous internet forums to discuss worthless political issues, your kind is a scourge upon humanity, blathering and blathering on and on about all kinds of boring crap. If your personality could be sculpted, the resulting piece would be Rodin's "The Thinker"--although I am absolutely positive that you are not nearly as muscular or naked as that statue. Rather lacking in emotion, introspective, gentle, and arrogant, you are most certainly a Haughty Intellectual! And, most likely, you will never achieve the recognition or fame you so desire!

Ken Nichols convicted and fined for bolt chopping
olyclimber replied to billcoe's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
Joseph, Sure, there is no legal "right or entitlement to bolt". It is about what is legal and fair for people to do on public land (private land should be at the discretion of the owner I would think). But if there is also no law prohibiting the bolts (except for placement method in Wilderness, etc)...so a compromise must be made somehow? Isn't this the publics land, and there are many differing opinions out there. How do you reconcile "Don't bolt where bolts aren't wanted" with a viewpoint that all bolts everywhere must be chopped? Another example building a trail on a public land...it too scars the land from its pristine state. The starting point should be some agreement to the exact use of the resource (either developing for recreational use it or maintaining the pristine state). However, even if such micromanaging happens, I'm sure that Hayduke will live on... -

dmuja, I don't mean to belittle your beliefs, I have complete respect for your right to hold them(and I share many of them with you). The fact is that the climbing community is filled with people with differing and often conflicting beliefs (like Christian vs. Islam, etc). Is there a way to share the common resources without total annihilation of the opposition? -
Now thats funny

At any rate, here is analogy of some people having a serious discussion in spray :

Serenity, I believe the reference was jokingly referring to language used by our current president. For the record, there a number of things that can get you banned from here, but having a different political beliefs is not one them. In other words, you will never be banned just for stating a political belief that differs from say...an moderator or admin. It is ALWAYS something else, even if that action that results in getting your banned was provoked by political discussion on the board.

Its clearly because you don't APPRECIATE them Off. You should spend more time with your freedoms, and buy them flowers every once in a while.
-
Serenity, all these posting are being saved in a secret room with a straight pipe onto the internets, and Off and his ilk will be dealt with soon enough

Well, if the cops aren't knocking on your door Off, then clearly things must be A-OK!

you are wrong. there may be people in the organization that are sport climbers and are particularly interested in protecting sport climbing...but that is actually not it. if you're assuming this based on who the WCC board is, then you must be a mind reader, and a poor one at that. and how easily you over look the things the WCC has done for climbers as an organization. if you look around at any other interest group, in order to have any representation in our chosen form of government, then you have to organize. the cool thing about anarchy is that you have no responsibility and you can just spend all your time tossing stones. good luck with that. -

Have you ever clipped a bolt (not just in a climb, but at a set of anchors)? If you have, you're a hypocrite based on what you say above. Are we not vandalizing "momma nature" just by building a road somewhere or even starting up the car? Clearly humans should leave the planet immediately, they're not NATURAL! Sure, in wilderness areas, power bolting is illegal, and there are rules you need to follow...but you're really coming off as lunatic fringe. At any rate, while your beliefs are perhaps (I can't speak for these other people and what they believe) shared by a few others here on the site, they are in the clear minority. Unfortunately for you, your tactics of not organizing and just chopping routes are just going to back fire on you, if your goal is to prevent the "defilement" of areas such as Exit 32. The bolt will just be put back up, and you'll just cause more scarring of momma nature's rocks. -

Well, maybe you could actually get involved rather than throwing stones from afar. You could even keep people focused on their roots, if that is your gig. There is actually quite a history behind Nichols. I don't claim to know everything about that story, but I do know that there was going to be nothing "resolved amongst climbers" (they tried). How do you come to a resolution when there is no middle ground, and people (Nichols in particular) aren't willing to compromise? So how would YOU deal with that situation? I'll be waiting here for you to propose your great solution to the problem. In the end they engaged the law after exhausting the other options they saw. Apart for that situation, remember that any group or "coalition" are only as good as the people that are its members. If you in fact actually care about climbing and what your local coalition is doing(which are in fact your peers, if you call yourself a climber), then get involved and influence from within. Its much more effective that throwing stones from afar. -

I suppose you have a better idea for coming together to protect climbers rights/access dmuja? Or are we supposed to grab our ankles and remain unorganized? I can only assume your posts are a troll, they are so asinine. If you're making assumptions based on a few posts here, maybe there was more to that story. -
