"The country's not at war, the army is at war. The country is at the mall". that sums up it up for me, and can be attributed to all the troubles we are having over there.

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics: - 29 have been accused of spousal abuse - 7 have been arrested for fraud - 19 have been accused of writing bad checks - 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses - 3 have done time for assault - 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit - 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges - 8 have been arrested for shoplifting - 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits - 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year Can you guess which organization this is?

I guess the thing is that I have almost no idea what Blackwater (and along with Blackwater all like organizations currently doing business in Iraq) is doing over there. I also don't know why they needed a "special agreement" to operate in Iraq, and what that special agreement entails. The basic information I have heard is what you mention below (that they are protecting foreign dignataries). Who exactly are these dignataries? I also understand the efficiencies and economies you might get from contracting (see it in in IT industry all the time). I'm just not feeling all good about using contractors in that capacity, even if it is all non-military missions. I guess that comes from my viewpoint about the war in general. It seems that the war has been fought from a modern business perspective, and that seems to have failed (on many accounts, but in particularly fincancially). While the big contractors might view it as a success, I think that is unpatriotic on their part. When I say "fought from a modern business perspective", I mean the war was has been fought with a volunteer army supplemented with contractors (sure, maybe those contractors are working on non-military missions, but they are still supporting the overall effort, are they not?). This is in contrast to a war like WWII, where there was a draft. The American public was fully engaged in what is going on. We've seen war contractors sucking the American public dry while we go to work everyday like nothing is happening and the "war news" is on page 6. I'm not accusing Blackwater of being one of these companies, but in general I distrust using contractors for fighting a war, no matter what their capacity. I also think that if we are fighting a war, the country should commit to it. Draft up kids and send them to fight...none of this volunteer only army. I know as a defense professional (I think that is what you are, but I don't know, correct me if I'm wrong) you probably don't like this idea because of the quality of recruit you might get, but I think that is the only way to get our country and fully engaged and working to "win the war". I'm not pschyed about it...I have a 6 year old son, and I don't want him going to war ever. At anyrate, I'm having a pain med ramble here, but I'm still really interested in Blackwater and their ilk. Like those paranoid people in the video above, I'm concerned about a "private army" in the United States...especially with one as effective as they might be. Sure they might be only doing a non-military mission now, but I'm sure you agree that they would be extremely qualified to do more.

the letter (and the statistics therein) where not authored by Jeff, as he pointed out. I don't need to prove the facts or dispprove them...the global warming bit is an idiotic arguement....(the motocross track is bad because it contributes to a carbon footprint that contributes to Global Warming???? WTF? Get real...the track isn't going in or not going it is going to contribute .0000000000000000012% towards global warming. yes i just made that up. ). I'm not saying yeah or nay about the cause...just the intial letter presented here would indicate a mentally disfunctional effort. I'm just pointing out that they better work on what foot they are putting forward if they expect to raise support. As pointed out by others, focus on things that actually DO matter like noise pollution, etc. At anyrate I didn't mean to distract the message, but I just couldn't believe that the case was actually being presented that way. I'm done, best of luck.

How many bones have you broken climbing (or hell, non-climbing breaks too), which bones were broken, and how long till you were climbing again? Other than this current situation, I broke my femur when I was 5 (my brother rode me back to the house on the handlebars of his bike), and they are telling me 6 weeks before I can wieght my leg...I'm just trying to understand how long. Anyone climbing with pins or pieces of metal in their shin bones (or other bones?)

I'd like to hear why it is Blackwater even exists, as opposed to this role being filled by an accountable US Military organization. I still don't understand why Blackwater (and the other like organizations filling these roles) is being used. Do you have any insight to the Serenity?

http://www.physorg.com/news109322080.html " Around midday Saturday, villagers were startled by an explosion and a fireball that many were convinced was an airplane crashing near their remote village, located in the high Andes department of Puno in the Desaguadero region, near the border with Bolivia. Residents complained of headaches and vomiting followed by a small alien emerging from withing their chest, ripping their body in two, local health department official Jorge Lopez told Peruvian radio RPP. Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized and subsquently ejecting an alien, Lopez said. "

I can't believe this! "The proposal involves clearing 75-85 acres of forest. That amount of forest removes approximately 400,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually. CO2 is the primary cause of global warming. Approximately 75 riders per day would use the tracks resulting in approximately 600,000 pounds of CO2 being introduced into the atmosphere annually. Net result: a “Carbon Footprint” of over 1,000,000 pounds of CO2 annually." Thats comical! If you're serious about your effort, better consider putting your letter writer in charge of sharpening pencils instead or something.
