  1. Yep, his is really a notable passing, maybe (sadly) the end of an era. He represented reasoned, political intellectual discourse, not dirty tricks, swift boat, and the criminal Karl Rove. The 'right' today is dominated by comparative intellectual midgets aka Limbaugh, Savage, and Ann Coulter, and by Fundi Christian ideology, ranting, slander and person attacks - as you said 'stupid'. In fact, although I am usually a lefty, I'd have to say that our society as a whole has gotten decidedly more 'stupid' since Buckley's heyday and unless you grew up then (or were already grown up) you would not even think such a time ever was. Its too bad.

    Wa State Caucus

Barack Obama gives me hope. Something I read online about him (though I forget where???).."He is collaborative not polarizing. He is brilliant not cunning. He is optimistic not angry." Pretty right on I think. Some things I'll add... I like that he answers questions sincerely, thoughtfully, almost like his mind is actually present within or near his body - something we are not used to in most politicians, maybe most people. I noticed this when he came to Washington state last year. I hope it continues. He is not perfect of coarse, but contrasted with other politicians he stands out - and not just because he is a shade darker. The main reason is that he does not leave one with the feeling that he is bought and paid for, he seems to be "his own man". Over time though, that could change. I hope not. People seem to be projecting onto him a bit of the idealized "savior" type archetype, however you have to give him the credit for providing the right template and right temperament for that projection. Unfortunately this has a quick downside if/when his "all too human" reality shatters our fragile belief in cartoon heros. I hope that doesn't happen til way after the election. Around the world, the image of America will be enhanced and maybe even remade with Obama as prez. He is aware of this himself and I have already read news online from overseas that indicates as much. He -and maybe even we- will be respected and welcomed globally (at least more so) and things will change for the better for us here because we will again have friends in other nations. I hope he is really really good at international diplomacy. As for the "elect ability factor", right now I think Obama has a better shot than Hillary - polls are now showing this btw. Just "her" name brings out so many strong, emotional, negative, impulsive responses in certain people so inclined that these people would probably show up at the polls just to vote her down when otherwise they would just stay home. I hope the Dems are smart enough to realize this. I will vote for Obama for all the above reasons and despite the fact that his speech at Key arena was whack, lacking alot of detail and generally sucked in comparison to Shrillary's (I give her credit for having better organization at this point). A president - is mostly a symbol, a figurehead - doesn't necessarily have to have all the answers though, nor all the details, he just aught to be able to inspire those around him. Right now Obama does that. Maybe the luster will wear off, probly will for sure. I hope that doesn't happen for a while though. and so, because of Barack, I have hope
  4. It aint all "garbage" in Minnesota.. My brother sent me these taken up on the "North Shore" area this past weekend. I don't know the route but I liked the pics. He is the in the bottom one.
  5. Just noticed the thread - CBS no advice here as youve already gotten some good stuff. Just a friendly heartfelt good luck and good wishes to you and your loved ones. As a Buddhist teacher I knew once said to me; "if there is one thing you should know in this life it is this, everything changes."

    jealous?

I just sold the pic copy rights to TMZ.com for $500 (I can do that right?). They said 180 million Christians were talking about it in church today and it has now bumped Fritney off the front page.

    jealous?

Well, yeah, and hopefully its out of odor too.

    jealous?

I for one am glad that the moderators have respect for free speech and open discourse and value this site for just that reason. I also claim my first amendment right to criticize any club/church/ "religion" that at base spends most of its time concerned with proselytizing and embracing the role of victim hood while largely ignoring its own hypocrisies. Long live the example of Christ, 111 needs you - Im sure he'll be calling on you for help real soon.

    jealous?

Maybe Christians should spend more time in prayer/meditation/worship rather than proselytizing and embracing the role of "victims" of free speech. Maybe if they did that more and set more of a living example instead of letting their religion be "hijacked by extremist" politicos, maybe if they did that people like 111 would have grown up with a stronger moral foundation and would not have treated "Love" the same way he might treat a brothel session and then maybe then he would not have posted a semi naked picture of his girlfriend on the World Wide Web.
  10. You maybe right, though it maybe small, any electronic device does produce a concentration of electro magnetic waves and therefore could in theory interfere with other devices. It might be a good idea to just turn off ALL (non-avalnche beacon) electronic devices when a search is underway.

    jealous?

. Dude posts a semi-nude pic of his fiancée on the INTERNET, posted it on cc.com, posted the thread with the pic in "spray", titled the thread (as if a brag and or dare) "jealous?", used the term "what" when referring to his fiancée, proclaims how much he loves HIS life (because he is in lust with miss Hot-Body)....and SC takes the heat? This must be the most romantic love story of all time! Its almost divine! Soul mates even! Good luck 1
  12. As far as I know (someone correct me if Im wrong), the common small GPS navigation unit people carry into the mountains does not *transmit* (it merely receives) a signal and therefore could not interfere with other signals. Personal locator beacons (which are becoming more comon now days) and "Mt Hood MLU's" do however transmit a signal and therfore could possibly interfere with some RF receiver devices like an avalanche beacon. Also, cell phones send out a "ping" signal periodically which might also get picked up by other devices - possibly. If you get buried with your MLU/PLB going off along with your avy beacon or if your search partner is transmitting via MLU/PLB during a search, I could see that causing problems. Anyway, according to some googling, GPS satellite transmit frequencies are 1575.42 MHz and L2 = 1227.6 MHz. Modern avy Beacon transmit frequency is 457khz. It might be possible for RF harmonic interference to "bleed through" across radio bands, but I highly doubt that the avy beacons are picking up satellites. I guess I would be more concerned with turning cell phones PLB's/MLU's off while a search was underway.
  13. I know a week has passed but, as of then, will the "Haystack" go as ice? mixed? Maybe steep snow?
  14. Daralicious seems to have some body image issues cuz she is built like a 15 year old boy. Narcissism may be understood as "a psychological condition characterized by self-preoccupation, lack of empathy, and unconscious deficits in self-esteem. Erotic pleasure derived from contemplation or admiration of one's own body or self, especially as a fixation on or a regression to an infantile stage of development." Despite the psycho-baggage, I for one still care about her - you bastards.
  15. Coming from back east originally, I really fucking hate the whole PNW nicey nice passive aggressive BS. Back there a "fuck you" meant "fuck you"! Out west here a "good morning" or a "have a nice day" may in fact mean "fuck you". CBS good luck in Calipornia dude, really, hope you don't forget how to climb choss though. BTW, I hear there is a certain 20 yo philosophy major down there somewhere looking fer a climbing mentor. Good luck wit dat too.
  16. Im going to go workout now, when I get back..., well, there just better be some asses here!
  17. Daralicious, climbing is sooooo passé..... What you really want to learn is the fine art of clucking
  18. For someone who says this---> she sure throws out a lot of "catch" words like this (nudge nudge) ---> Either a troll or someone wanting it both ways..., well, you know what I mean.
  19. CART --------> HORSE I understand the frustration but, slow down. Study "goal setting" 101. Take the youthful exuberance and temper it with some quiet determination. Set some realistic goals. Let time be your friend, what's the rush? Find someone you can hike with - hiking sometimes transitions into scrambling/climbing. Read the guides. Hang out with same interested people -specially women -, go where they go. Eventually you will talk to someone who has like goals. Graduate from collage, take your wealth and put it into your avocation. Enjoy life as it unfolds, opportunities abound. BTW, you can't say Im a perv until you get to know me better.

    Barack

A President Like My Father A prez is mostly a figurehead anyway. But he/she could inspire and lead if they got the right stuff. We have grown so cynical in the past 20+ years that we hardly believe that its possible to be otherwise. We look for every possible angle to knock others down (..ahemmm.. cc.com). Obama is only human, but JFK said "Ask not what your country can do for you..etc" and people really bought into it. Imagine that, they really believed in him, and then Bobby K too. If Obama can think fast on his feet (which he can) he will overcome his minor short comings. He will inspire and bring out the most in people around the world and a lot of things will suddenly appear possible that we once thought were not. Can you imagine Hillary getting anything done? Personally I like her too and would take her over any republican - but she brings up so much negative feelings for so many people, there would be nothing but bickering for four years. There's something happening. Maybe we can't explain it completely but something a little different is beginning to happen. Barack is part of that and a lot of people from various ideologies are beginning to sense it. He is the only guy I think has a chance to cut through the BS and stay real. THAT gives me hope.
  21. ..Garibotti comments that it involves little extreme climbing.. Thats funny. Quite an accomplishment.
  22. speaking of break downs.. How do you make a Nun pregnant? Dress her up as an altar boy. Whats the best way to teach an altar boy about sex with women? Dress him up as a nun.
  23. I agree with others. You need to move to Washington, NOW. I have an extra room.
  24. Thanks iluka, we'll definitely take your advice. BTW, I really enjoyed your "to the point" and very informative lecture on high altitude travel last year - great stuff and well presented! D
  25. I don't know the east side much but Paradise is good and around Snoqualmie pass area also. If you gotz no avalanche skills though pick someplace flat and well away from any 30+ degree slopes - hard to do in the areas I just mentioned I think. Take a class/Study up before hand though and on your camping trip you can really get edumacated.
