KF thanks for sharing your experience with us all. Glad to hear everybody was ok. It is good for me to here these type of stories to keep me reminded of the dangers out there. It is so easy to forget about them soemtimes when you are having so much fun.

Well here is some photos from that stellar day, thanks to Dave and his camera. This first one is our approach, I guess there is a better way oh well next time. To the right of the ridge the south side of Arrowhead. We squeezed in 3 run on that. Finished up the day on the left side of the ridge. Three other guys we saw on the mountain that day. Russ was that you guys? One of them ripping a fine line, in good form. Me having a blast ripping down the mountain. Me getting blasted, gawd you gotta to love powder. It was deep in places. Dave approaching the end of the south side ride we were hitting up. Here's to a stellar day

Thanks for the update Paul. I know I have been meaning to get my ass out there.

Drove by Drury on Saturday. It is there and it is magnificent looking. It might be scary though, we were on Hubba Hubba, which was a fun hike, but as far a good pro, there really wasn't any to be found. The ice on HH was pretty cooked from the warm spell we had earlier this month, so it make me wonder what it did to Drury, especially where there is a lot more water that flow behind it. Snow is a little deep definitely bring flotation, but once you hit the steep slope they might be useless. There is no ice pack to cross on so you need a boat. Get on that sucka and tell us all how it was.

Yeah man, that was a killer day. When Dave and I were first making plans to get out and ride he mentioned leaving Seatlle at 6. In the back of my head I was thinking that was way to early, but looking back now if we have been at the parking at 6 and if I had brought a headlamp we could have gotten in a couple of more runs. It was a stellar day, ocassionally clearing enough to give us some views of some mountain I had not seen before. It was such a rocking day of untracked powder, nice temps, and good company, don't get much better than that. Dave where are those damn pictures??? Until next time

[TR] Union Peak- Descent of the NW face 1/25/2004
ken4ord replied to AlpineK's topic in the *freshiezone*
Sounds like a good little tour. Dave and I had an awesome day over on Arrowhead. If I would have had a headlamp there would have been no dragging me out of there. We still managed to get three runs on the backside of the mountain and a descent back to the car. AlpineK we'll have to get out sometime for some bc. -
der mighty toof Shweet!!! I wanted to do that on Saturday. Next time.

Why don't climbers developing new routes post here
ken4ord replied to Thinker's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
I agree the spray keeps things flowing, but spray could be kept in spray with references/links to the original post in the spray section. That way the thread is strickly all TR's and/or new routes, which would be the section I would be most interested in reading. -
There is a third future, and that is new route development. I was out there this summer scoping it out and very surprised that there "weren't" routes up that huge piece of stone. Glad to hear there is since it is really close to Seattle and everything. I was begining to think the climbing community around here are slackers if they left that hunk of stone by its self. So info please??? someone anyone, there has to be topo, so where is it?

Why don't climbers developing new routes post here
ken4ord replied to Thinker's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
what if there was a "new route log" forum that did not allow replies, i.e. one could post info about a new route, but in order to comment about it, other people would have to start a new thread in the climbers board (or spray). that way people who did not want commentary could still post for the "historical record" and would be somewhat insulated from people's opinions. this would also be easier for the guidebook authors to peruse new routes without wading through thousands of posts. (it seems a bit silly to be so sensitive, but I'd rather have the info than try to change someone's personality...) in general, i think people are apt to report alpine routes but not crag routes on CC. as others have mentioned, i think this has a lot to do with preserving future potential - not many people do multiple FAs on the same peak, but plenty of folks dream of putting up a whole crag full of routes. I'll second the new route log forum idea. -
What day were you there? This weekend sort of blew up there even though there were some great views. Monday was definitely a rocking day with spring like conditions.

Question to all: say you were bivying at Thumb Rock and you had packed a shovel up there to dig a platform. So someone from another party (who didn't bring a shovel in order to save weight) comes along and wants to borrow yours, would you let them? Part 2, would you ever do this; that is, rely on borrowing gear from some other person, not in your party, at a popular bivy site? (not talking about emergency situations here, thats obviously different). As long as I wasn't using the shovel, yeah I would let them use it. I would think of myself as being really rude if I didn't. I would think it sort of foolish not to bring a shovel though. They are light and they are multi fuctional (digging, deadman anchor, and as someone mentioned before in another thread smoking instrument).

Good point, I have always looked a Liberty Ridge as a route with out any care if I go to the top of Lib Cap or Columbia Crest. Eventually I will get up on both points, but haven't bothered. Last time cause I was whooped after a cold night bivying high so going all the way up was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to get down to and eat some food. As far as what people consider complete or not complete doesn't matter to me, I climbed what I did and not claiming to climb any more or less than I did. So I guess it depends on what your personal goals are.
