Anyone know a local (seattle area) source for bulk citric acid? Looking for about 5 lbs (a bit less than 2.5 kg) I can get it online at a good price but though i'd look locally. might even consider vancouver since i have to go up there anyway to pick up something.

while i agree that environmentalism needs to be more science based (speaking as an earth/marine science grad) i worry that politicians will ignore the results if it doesn't suit their political ideals or who pays their campaign bills. i was a *bit* heartened to see that bushco recently acknowledged that science does indicate an anthropogenic factor in global warming. i thought they'd never admit to that given their previous rhetoric.

The feds could simply stop taking so much of my money by ceasing to spend so much of it.....

this kind of shit makes me laugh. climbing is inherently a selfish pursuit. no one is saving lives or forests or profoundly increasing our understanding of the universe or the human condition by doing it. to me, it's quite pointless who does anything faster, or lighter, or with more 'style'. that said, have fun in the sierras. it's the only thing about california that i miss.

Having had a roomie once who was seriously into guns (not just trained to use them like me), I learned never to discuss guns and crime with him unless I was seriously up on my statistics. It was funt o watch him debate Boston liberals. They'd start out thinking they had the upper hand and he'd swamp them with statistics and such. Eventually, they'd get frustrated and angry and give up with "Well, it's STILL wrong!" ;-)

Just to be clear, Greg. They do this in other cities as well, not just Democratic strongholds. ;-)
