    Huge fall at Smith

Check out the response to his same "HUGE FALL" thread on Smithrock.com. Now that's a huge fall. Shown up in the first response. Ruining a thread? Looking who's calling the kettle black. A ten foot fall is a big fall? That's 5 ft above a bolt/gear, grow some balls. JL
  15. I'm suprised you didn't get it off the post you just replied to from Billy. WHat do you want to know? You can reach the TH with any vehicle. Maybe a 3 minute walk before you can skin. Boot/skin track going in a few different directions. Be careful taking the one the goes high above the normal creek crossing with bridge. It's a down track from a group last week, it takes you to the N. side of the SE arm on North Sister. Tons of snow, all the killer lines are in. IceHose(NE slot on Middle) IS IN!!!! I've never seen it in this late in the season. E face of Middle, Thayer, all great snow coverage. JL
  16. Thanks Billy, i was wondering about Whitewater TH. Are the the big trees on bare road? I'll go in and cut them, just curious as if they're laying in snow. Pole Creek is good all the way to the TH. Some spots of snow but tracks lead the way, you don't even need clearance. JL
  17. Don't climb with Frank, he's a real jerk. just kidding, the guy fucking cranks. I'm down for afternoon sessions midweek at Smith, just let me know when your around. JL
  18. you fucker, that's where i shoulda went. I ended up going in later Sunday, passed numerous vehicles coming out all soggy. Never really got rained on, but hung out with overnight gear at the base of North Sister for A LONG time waiting to see if it was gonna clear. Snow was absolute mank, needed clearing to set it up. Never could see the summits so i bailed and went and saw Modest Mouse, great show. JL
  19. I wouldn't worry that much about it sliding, not really a terrain trap or anything. It could sluff if it's loaded, but rarely does it load up high. But that's why it's such a sought after CORN run, which i don't think it will be. Most likely warmed up mushy powder with all this precip. I may wait until Sunday to go check it out.
  20. Last weekend's warm spell did us justice. i just went up there this morning. A low clearance non 4x4 can get within 1+ mile of the TH. I punched through with a Suburban no problem all the way to the TH. It's not consistent snow, just deeper patches with deep tracks. With some momentum it shouldn't be a problem. Really shitty out there right now, been raining since 4 am, snow is absolute mush down low. Calling for 3-5 inches above 5500 feet. I bet more than that above 7K, it's been pouring in Bend all day. At the TH it was that shitty Hyperthermic mixed rain and snow. JL
  21. Looks like we got a CC party out there. Letsroll and myself will be headed out tomorrow unless it's still pouring rain. He camped up there last night and was gonna go in this morning, but it's really wet. 3-5" of new snow about 5500 ft. The SE ridge will sluff as soon as it warms up. Thayer is out due to avy danger as well. I'm sure the Hayden will be fine, just warmed up powder. We're most likely gonna avoid the slog to Camp Lake and camp at the base of Hayden, much easier and you just climb up and over Middle to do the SE ridge. see you out there. Oh yeah, if you have clearance you can make it to the TH. If not you can get within 1+ mile before you hit the snowdrifts. I punched through with a Suburban this morning. Super wet and shitty up there right now. JL JL
  22. Obviously tons of ice climbing, even though the Bozeman area has better ice lines. For rock take your pick Blodgett Canyon- numerous multi pitch, some free some mixed aid/free. Mulky Gulch/Rattlers Gulch- limestone fins, mostly sport Kootenay Canyon- mixed sport/trad crag Bass Creek- mini sport crag Lolo Pass area- lots of granite domes, sport/trad, cool setting. And numerous other crags within 1 hour drive. JL
  23. Thanks Tyler, you da man. JL
  24. You must have inside knowledge, from what i heard the road going to South Sister isn't supposed to be plowed until just before Memorial Day.
  25. Are you planning on the road being open? Or just skinning from Bachelor lot? If your planning on just going up the South ridge you don't need to worry too much about avi conditions. One can avoid most terrain traps on the way up from Green Lakes.
