OK, it looks like the Wedgewood Alehouse is a go. I was concerned about it being large enough, but it's a little bigger than it looks from the outside. I guess if hundreds of people start showing up we could move camp, but it should accomodate a good 30 people fairly easily. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

OK, I just got back from the Alehouse and it looks bigger in person than it does driving by. I think we could be happy there. I'm calling it there! THE ALEHOUSE IT IS!

The A in ADSL stands for Asynchronous. ADSL is a DSL line that is mostly for low use. It has download speeds many times faster than its upload speeds. S(ynchronous)DSL has upload speeds almost the same as its download speeds. This makes it optimal for gaming and servers. Because the upload speed is high it is more expensive than ADSL. For most uses ADSL is all you need.

But I'm so indecisive! They're both on 35th Ave NE within blocks of each other on opposite sides of the street. The Wedgewood Broiler is in the same village as QFC, a little Video Store, and Homestreet Bank (about 85th & 35th). The Alehouse is about 5 blocks North on 35th Ave NE on the West side of the street (a little place that you may miss if you blink). That alehouse looks small from the front .. I wonder if we can squeeze all of us climbers in that place? I'll head down there in a few and scope out both places and post back on this thread by about 1PM and I'll give you the full TR.

I think we were originally discussing the Broiler, but then someone brought up the Alehouse. I'm pretty indifferent since I live in the neighborhood and I haven't been to either. Whatever choice is made, the beer will taste good.

Right on, I hope he makes it back safe. Cool tattoo from far away but I can't make out the details .. what are the little red things inside? They kinda look like chess pieces.

Another vote for Crystal. If we're strictly talking terrain, I'd definitely go with Crystal. Bachelor, like Allison said, has consistently better snow in my experiences, but Crystal definitely has the better runs. No offense to Gapertimmy!

I bought a LaFuma Baltoro 70 at that price (~$200) and I love it. No bells and whistles at all really, but fit is excellent. The pack is a little on the heavy side though. If you're looking for light, cheap (under $200) and good quality, I don't see it happening.

High speed is nice .. what did you have before?

I think it's really stupid .. I honestly don't see any humor in it at all. At the same time I think it's harmless -- harmless, humorless, tasteless, and brainless --> a 4 star comic strip!

Often the weight difference is negligible between a 5 degree bag and a -5 degree rated bag. That's the reason I went with the Western Mountaineering Dakota Super Dry Loft. It only weighs 3 pounds, 2 ounces and is rated at a very conservative -5F. The loft on this thing is amazing, and I use it all year round. Also, in the original post, he mentions he's looking for a bag for the Cascades and points north. A 0 degree rated bag may leave you feeling a little chilly on a Winter trip to Rainier. Then again, you may get lucky with the conditions and not need the extra down (as was the case last week). HTH.

No no, that's the new trend in light weight climbing .. it's called climbing floss.

The way I understand it the constitution applies to America as a whole. This would theoretically mean there is no difference in rights on private and public land. I say theoretically because the first ammendment doesn't protect all speech like it was designed to do. Sure you've got free speech, but be prepared to pay the consequences. Edited to say that there are property rights under the constitution the same way there are rights to free speech protected under the constitution. Which takes precedence I guess is up to the person who owns the land. I'm no lawyer, but I think you should be able to remove whomever from your property if you don't like what they're saying. Even though I'm not a give peace a chance kind of guy when it comes to the conflict in Iraq, I don't think I would have made the same decision to kick these folks out of the mall for voicing their otherwise harmless opinion.

You can hike with a beer in your hand, but you can't climb with a beer in your hand (unless you've got that special talent).

I'll be there (depending on location) .. I have no car so it makes things difficult. Thanks Mattp for the ride to and catbirdseat for the home from pub club last night.

Hey ya ... I had a blast you all ... thanks for showing a newcomer the 'ropes'!

I think it might be some chemicals too brotha!

I saw her a couple weeks ago when I bought a rope. She was looking good as ever.

Me too, so buy me (us) a beer.

They're actually throwing out estimates now on how much you should expect based on how many forms have already been submitted. The last report I heard on kirotv was that each person should receive $15-$18. Good news, as I filled out the form about 8 months ago and just forgot about it until it recently resurfaced in the media.
