  1. I placed three 16cm express', but no stubbies. It was somewhat wet, but nothing like Deeping Wall the next day (jja realized the merits of scholler in a waterfall, and spent the next few hours being cold. Need goretex )
  2. Not necessarily. Academics are not everything. You're going to be living there for 4-5 years, so choosing a college based primarily on academics is kinda narrow minded. Truth is, unless you end up going to an ivy league or other top 10 school, where you got your degree is not going to matter once you get a few years of work experience under your belt. College is a great place to experience life and maybe do a little growing up. Making sure that the activities that motivate you are available and convenient is a good thing to consider. As is the aesthetic of the campus and town, and the types of people who go to school there. You're going to pay a load of money for an education. If you want to climb, it is possible to do it much more cheaply.

Hmmmmm young cracked u still suck.... how is moving at 0.5c at REST? It isn't...and that's the flaw in CBS's argument. Sky explained it better than me, though, but that's to be expected. He's more of a than me, apparently.

But that's just pointless. Take a 1kg rock and have it move at .5c. Now it's rest mass is greater than 1kg? Energy doesn't imply (rest) mass.
  6. That is why there is always new gear to spray about....
  7. You have to go to college? Does this mean that you don't want to go college? You should seriously rethink your priorities and get some direction in your life, dude. College was the best 14 years of my life. Loser.
  8. That's a very stupid way to choose where to go to school.

    wow

    STFU.
  10. I can't get into the bar, though. I think I'm beginning to see the light here....
  11. Nontheist. But I knew that already.
  12. no Have you ever placed a screw leading on steep ice? I've placed screws on lead, thought nothing that a hardman such as yourself would consider steep. But what if a guy goes out and solos Carl's Berg. It's rated WI5, and is in good condition. Did he just solo a WI5? According to you, no, because it was easier since he didn't have to place any pro. Likewise, if you place a screw every three feet, the climb will be harder than if you place pro every fifty feet. But it's the same climb.
  13. But people call the Deeping Wall WI5, and it isn't vertical. Not to mention you essentially don't have to swing to get up it. I haven't done many rated ice climbs. But it does strike me as odd that a total newbie (myself) can hike "WI5" on TR. Edit: Lambone, how does climbing on a TR not count? Shouldn't it be the same as with rock climbing? A grade is a grade, no?
  14. And it looks like the goddamn guy survived. Props to the cat.

So don't get started. If you don't try it, you can't get addicted!
  16. Schuldn't this be in the NEW MOUNTAIN BIKING FORUM?
  17. I lost a Drytool glove, and can't spend 60 bucks on a new pair that I'll lose, too. I want to try the cheap Vinyloves, but don't know where I should go to find em (other than online). Anybody know?
  18. My biggest problem is typically not warmth, usually I'm too warm. Mainly while skiing. Hence, I usually wear a silkweight Capilene top when doing aerobic stuff. When climbing and/or sitting around I have a REI midweight top and bottom that's warmer. I'd like to try wool sometime, but it's money I could spend on other gear that I don't already have.
  19. Edit: Alex, I've got the 'updated' version of the Freney, but it's called the Freney XT. The Freney Pro is a more hiking boot like thing, if I remember correctly. Or is the original post confused? Are we talking rigid ice boots or midweight semiflexible leathers?
  20. I used my shovel to build a snowman yesterday!
  21. Back on track..... I emailed a bunch of people and Trevor Kostanich, a manager at Alpental, replied that yes, they are shutting down uphill traffic on the South side of the creek, but no changes to parking will be implemented at this time. IMHO, this is scandalous. I could see why they would close 'their' trail to uphill traffic, but by closing the entire side of the valley they are restricting our ability to enjoy public land. I'm looking forward to seeing them try to enforce the rules.
  22. I'm going to stick a few rocks in your pack next time. I can NEVER fucking keep up.
  23. I believe that's actually standard/required protection at some of the sandstone crags near Dresden in Germany. Others here probably know more..... Sketch city, the only pro is knots and bigass bolts. Metal hardwear is forbidden due to percieved rock damage. I never led much, I don't hold much faith in either the rock or the pro.
