  2. No, actually, if you use gas of the wrong octane you will most likely ruin your engine due to the gas exploding before the cylinder is in the proper position, commonly know as 'knocking'. That is, the piston is still decreasing the volume of the cylinder when the gas explodes, which obviously screws up the cycle. It's the timing, not the force of the combustion.
  3. Thinker, I'm talking conservation of momentum. If the casing of mass M1 moves to the left with speed V1, then the slug of mass M2 will move right with speed V2=M1V1/M2. Elasticity doesn't have much to do with it. It all depends on the mass ratio. Oh, and your surface area argument is severely flawed. The radial forces inside the casing cancel out unless the casing is blown apart. Assuming it is NOT blown apart, the only effective force on the casing is the pressure inside times the area of the cap. Since the pressure on the cap is the same as the pressure on the end of the slug, and since the end of the slug has the same cross-sectional area as the cap, the force on the slug is equal and opposite to the force on the casing.
  4. It really sucks to argue with Issac Newton.

  6. I love physicists who live in the nether realm of theory. He's full of crap! The heavy lead slug will stay put. You're full of crap! The force that moves the casing shrapnel has an equal and opposite force that acts on the slug. The slug will move less, but it will move.
  7. But they're one size fits all, if you wear large boots it'll be a tight fit. I used mine till I lost one.
  8. "just say NO to groomed snow!"
  9. I don't know about YOUR rat tail, but MY rat tail doesn't increase drag. I'll admit, though, it is indeed the least inefficient of all skin systems.
  10. The rat tail doesn't increase drag, that's the nice part of the system. RIP IT UP! LOL!
  11. But then bliss would be soulless!
  12. Then either the tension in the skin must be HUGE, or the glue must be very poor. Or maybe it results from the skin peeling up at the edges when the middle is stretched? Weird. Either way, the rat tail rules! Though I have used the euro tip thing without problems, too.
  13. How would it 'make the skin peel'? It's a shear force, which is perpendicular to the direction that the skin peels. So how would it do that?
  14. Bullshit. Just make sure you attach the clip, then stick the skin to the ski, so the glue isn't stressed. I don't know about you, but my 110mm skins are a bit bulky to put down my shirt.
  15. I have never used skins without tail clips, I see it as extra insurance. But I don't have a huge amount of experience, either.
  16. BD has an instructional vid on their site.
  17. Whatever. Ice climbing is fun.
  18. I think I would climb better if I could selectively shut down certain parts of my brain. Thinking is aid!
  19. Grrrrrr.... Go hang out with Harry Pi ya pinko commie... I'm calling Tom Ridge on your subversive ways. A bunch of grown men with steriod-shrivelled testicles wearing tights who run into each other in hot pursuit of an inflated semi-sphere. Anyone who watches such worthless entertainment is simply in denial of their failure as human beings. Nothing like watching someone else get some exercise while you eat potato chips and drink beer, eh?
  20. Dave's too snart for his own good. But football sux.
  21. You'd have to move the heel piece back to reduce the chance of releasing the heel when landing a jump or otherwise severely flexing the ski. If you move the heelpiece forward, it'll make it easier to release.
  22. High avy danger.
