The Cascade River road is gated at MP 18 as of 10-6-03 (today!) for road maintenance. The CJ Couloir itself has almost no snow in it anymore. I think the Sill Glacier also shrunk by half this year. To climb the couloir, I would wait til spring unless we get some uncharacteristic serious early season low altitude dumpage. A few more summers like this and that pocket glacier is history. Alex Then the CJ couloir will be cake!

Lambone, I'm always puzzled by your finances. Wouldn't it be far cheaper to buy ice tools once, and keep them, then save up a bit and buy a portaledge once, and keep it, rather than losing money every time you trade tools for a ledge?

I don't care what people say about Camalots being too heavy and blah blah blah, I just spent 300+ bucks on five of em. Best cam out there! Next best is Tech Friends, like Camalots without the double axle. Metolius TCUs are as good as the tiny Camalots, better in some situations. I wish cams weren't so expensive, tho.

The warmer fabrics aren't versatile enough. WB400 would be perfect for really nasty conditions, but what about when the approach is in the warm woods, but once you hit treeline it gets cold and windy? I think a better system would be EPIC pants, combined with polypro long johns, and a pair of 100 weight fleece pants. Windproof, warm, versatile, and light.

But the Guide Pants suck! Don't buy scholler.

You guys are right, Karate Crack is harder than 8. I'd say it's a solid 8+ It's harder than most of the 70's 10a's in the Gorge.
