  1. Anyone know if he is still in the area and has contact info? Please PM me if ya know- Thanks M. Hanna
  2. Hi All- My apologies for not checking in here as often as I should. Thanks to everyone for the donations, kind words, and offers of assistance in this important project. We got a great start on repairs this year, and it will be great to validate the materials and methods that we used over this wet season. Work in 2015 included: 1) Reinforcement/casting a new footing to the downstream side of the concrete pad, was very eroded and undercut 2) Encapsulation and restraint of reinforcement steel which was exposed and reinforcing nothing but air We sawcut around the steel to key in the repair grouts. 3) Floated in a high strength traffic grade polymer repair grout 4) Filled in deep pockets with concrete to minimize the water flowing underslab. The FS has been very helpful in every respect getting this approved and started. Several FS and FFPU folks have given their volunteer hours to helping as well. Really looking forward to 2016 progress!! Keep putting the word out- Also, FFPU is working hard to maintain roads in the whole local system, much damage was caused by the large events in past weeks. 3. Lennox Peak or Lake 22 Headwall both weird and excellent
  4. Headed up with my wonderful wife yesterday and checked the 78 culverts from town to 8 mile trailhead. 5 of the culverts were obstructed and would have caused road damage during a storm of this magnitude. Also cleared the drains on the clear creek bridge, most of which have been plugged for a long time. The Asbestos Creek fiord is in good shape after the partial repair. I'm collecting funds for the remainder of the repair next year on the behalf of FFPU please pm me if interested in making a donation. Or come up and give a hand, all welcome M. Hanna
  5. Hi all- The first trip up was pretty much a wash out (slight understatement), but we got some of the downstream footing in place prior to the deluge plus a bit of grinding around the exposed rebar. Nels and Martha Rasmussen, and Paul/Phyllis (with the FS)team were unstoppable. The next trip was myself and James Lescantz, and we hand mixed about 30 bags of polymer grout and concrete. Hard work but felt great. The original plan was to target over just the rebar but the surface was so eroded that a full overlay was done. I would like to put together a fund raising effort over the winter to build supplies again. This round was purchased by WCC, Greyell fund, and FFPU (Friends for Public Use). I think an additional 2K would cover the costs. I believe we stabilized the worst of the damage for the winter, and it will be good to see how the particular grout and bonding agents perform in this challenging application. A huge thanks to all involved, it's great to not be too worried about continued damage to the fiord. It has truly been a pleasure working alongside dedicated FS employees and volunteers alike on both this project and the North Mountain Lookout Restoration this summer. Check out their FB page to see all of the hard work done to date. As the adopter of the 2060 road, I'll soon be headed up to clear culverts for the season, please let me know if anyone would like to go with- Cheers, M.Hanna
  6. Great day out Matt. The head wall pitch is stunning. Mh
  7. Having spent Saturday up on clear creek all I can say is Take THAT you fire you! I think we got about 5" rain yesterday or so it felt
  8. I will be coordinating a work party through Darrington's Friends For Public Use (FFPU) this weekend with the goal of performing permanent repairs to the concrete ford at Asbestos Creek. We were authorized by the FS to perform this work following a plan submittal about a year ago. Without this important repair, it is likely that the 2060 would only remain open a couple more years if the ford went away and got replaced by a natural drainage channel. If you have driven across in the last year, you noted the exposed reinforcement bars.... The funds for this most excellent project were donated by FFPU, WCC, and the Greyell Memorial fund. Ironically, we are about to get a big rain, the first in a long long time. Anyone out there have access to a trash pump we will likely need to keep the upstream from pooling into the work area? Just thought I would ask, though it's a long shot- Also, PM me if interested in helping out. I'll be camping there on Friday night. Thanks, Mark Hanna
  9. Does anyone have any specific info or pictures of the reported Blueberry route issues? I have been monitoring the expando blocks mid height for many years and would be curious to see what's up and soon to be down..... M.Hanna
  10. Actually those are Hilti coil anchors. There is a coiled spring at the back of the hole. They are quite a bit stronger than wedgies even in the corroded condition. A couple years ago I did a series of ff2 dynamic with a 300 lb weight and 15kn static pulls on a whole route full of em. No issues whatsoever for the 12 year old applications .
  11. Oh my those 2 in particular are the mossiest on the crag. Good work and glad you liked the approach Mh
  12. Spring Mountain - FA: TickTac 2/22/2015 Trip Report: As promised, the windfalls have been taken care of, and the approach is clear and straightforward, taking about 25 minutes. Friend Chad and I put up a new 35 M pitch that goes from P1 of Ticktock and moves up left to find a nice arete feature that parallels Romantica's P2, ending in a set of belay bolts on a spacious ledge. It's 5.7+/5.8 and makes for a fun outing on great stone (typical of the area). We rapped Ticktock and dug the moss out of the cracks (which had not been scrubbed since 2005). It is in pretty good shape now, just needs a little rain and wind to flush. Gear Notes: 10 draws Approach Notes: Easy
  13. Bump for a good TR. I was up there this last weekend in the sun. It was beautiful. If you haven't been, I would highly suggest a visit to this excellent crag. There are some windfalls on the approach path, but I plan on working on those in the weeks to come. M. Hanna
  14. Had a great trip up there in I believe 2010, fantastic continuous flow up the main drain. Not fun approach though in bony conditions like you experienced, yikes. Thanks for the report M. Hanna
  15. My last CC conversation with Tyler some time ago, I think I sent him some photos of the late Greyell on Illusion Wall: “got a boner lookin at your pictures.... lets climb? bolt some slab? when can we get into some granite slab to bolt from the ground? fuck cracks” We miss you Tyler, RIP
  16. In 1959, a crash happened in Oso, right next to the Stilly North Fork There are still a few locals around who recall- Oso Plane Crash MH
  17. Ah Tyler. Whirling Dervish that will be missed. Powerful spirit indeed. We had great times at Alvord Desert and Leslie Gulch a few years back. My sincere condolences to family and friends. Mark Hanna
  18. Springy spring? Shoot me a pm or call. M.Hanna
  19. Well- Its been a year since we lost Chris and I just wanted to take a moment to remember a great friend. His contributions to climbing are significant and his involvement and stoke in the DTown valleys is greatly missed. I took a brief trip to the big boulder in the basin recently, and found it a very peaceful place still. He had a hand in many of the fine routes listed and many many more I'm sure. 20. It's possible. I would not be deterred, but would bring a couple hangers, nuts, and a wrench.
  21. I could use an occasional hand. Or two. Or a well placed napalm strike. Welcome to the North Cascades
  22. That thimbleberry and anenome (sp?) can get crazy tall up there this time of year, and seems to thwart access to the base for many. The Dodge Dart area is up and right about a 20 minute hike from where you were, sounds like the fixed line was near the Cloven Roof.Tracks went up in 2006, and the base always looks cruddy until swept clear as this is where the snow cone resides/ends up. Earlier this year I climbed Romantica, Ticktock, Shapely Apes,Dodge Dart, and cleaned out a short and sweet honest to goodness hand crack on Juggernaut. All seemed about the same moss-wise. Trophy Wife, Pastor of Muppets and Heavens could certainly use a scrub and traffic. Wild Rosy (2 climbs left of Tracks) should be fine as it was finished last year. The place sure is a reflector oven in the summer heat though. I usually visit in the spring and fall. M.Hanna
  23. THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST INSPIRATIONAL POST ON CC TO DATE Thank you M Hanna
