whatever dude. my parents made me work like a dog, i am looking forward to doing the same. damn it! i hate to agree w/erik i always had a ton of work to do around the house. and in order to support my personal hobby of choice as a teen i had a job from the time i was 13. i don't think there's anything wrong with this girl making money from climbing even at this age. if her parents are pushing her to climb if she doesn't want to....that's different. there is nothing wrong w/a teen having a job.

in the past, i made a living as a pro in a sport i love. i don't love it so much anymore. my passion for it waned and eventually i gave it up. no i'm a casual participant, on my own terms. we don't even know what her intentions are. maybe she see the opportunity to make some $$$ now and has no intentions of making a career of it. maybe she'll burn out and come back to it later. maybe she'll find some other activity that fuels her later. in the mean time, as cheesy as this may be, it's a far cry from being the worst thing out there. hopefully she'll make the most of this opportunity and i can't see slamming her for it. as muffy said earlier, i'd rather see girl's playing with this than barbie. if the worst thing that happens to you all day is that you have become aware of this doll's existence or see it at REI consider yourself lucky.

i met a nice swiss couple at l'worth a couple of weeks ago. i was chatting w/the gentleman at the belay. he asked if i were on holiday. i told him that i had taken the day off to go climbing. he was surprised and remarked how few americans he had met that actually took vacation. he did not say that in a positive way. vacation is good. i'll take as much as i can get!
