  1. Facism? You have only to look in your own back yard.
  2. Like being flamed? Maybe not, but I tolerate it. I see it for what it is, mostly just reflexive macho posturing. Speaking of which, Dru said he was going away for a week. Did he say where he was going?
  3. It gives new meaning to the phrase Pyrrhic Victory, doesn't it?
  4. Trask, are you going for an all-trask Spray Forum? You only need a couple more posts and you will have all top ten.
  5. Just out of curiosity, I went back through North Cascades Route Reports, scanning for TRs, looking for negativity and abuse. I went back eleven pages to August, 2003. Well, I found little evidence of it. There was just Klenke's crack about sewing it up on dryad's thread about the Beckey Route on Liberty Bell and that was pretty mild. I would say that recently, there just hasn't been a lot of problems. Maybe I should go back farther or look in Alpine Lakes (Tooth), but it's beginning to look to me like the problem has been overstated.
  6. Have you seen this thread yet? As Off_White put it, how newbie are you?
  7. The bastard! What a waste. I'll bet old One Eye was living the life of Reilly too, with a big harem. Those ewes are going to miss him.
  8. My take is that all navigation tools have strong points and weak points and that you should use those tools most appropriate to the terrain and weather conditions you will likely encounter. A related thread on GPS versus Altimeters.
  9. There goes your deposit, Gary.
  10. The Kormona Mine is near Mt. Stickney. There are some cliffs on the south side of the basin. Map.
  11. How difficult would it be to rig up a hidden camera in a tree and then go climbing? Just leave the tape rolling for three hours from 5 pm to 8 pm on a June evening. You'd have to be certain no one was around to watch you set it up. Heck, the news people might even supply the camera.
  12. Ironic isn't it? She got to go to college, while so many others couldn't afford it.
  13. Supposing there was such a thing as a nudist's license. What would the application look like? I mean, what sort of questions would they ask you?
  14. The current flu vaccine doesn't even have the right strains, anyway. Besides, I've felt worse before as a result of the vaccine itself.
  15. So if you continued to climb, you would have no audience for whom to chestbeat? I've thought about this nudist license thing and decided that it probably wouldn't be a good thing, UNLESS the licensing authorities were to deny licenses to those who are fat or ugly.
  16. That goes without saying, but it's small consolation.
  17. If you can get some good video of the crooks in action, you can then give a copy of it to Newstips at King5 and get it on the air. It will have everyone looking for these guys and it will also shame the authorities into taking action. They already have the info. They go out and make the arrests and then given the prior publicity, make themselves out to be big heroes. Everyone wins.
  18. There are some other super heavy but weakly interacting particles (besides neutrinos) that have been postulated as being associated with dark matter, if I remember correctly.
  19. Don't understimate Van der Waals attraction. It's what makes your sticky rubber shoes work so well. It what insects use to walk on ceilings. So Blake, come clean, were you serious or trolling?
  20. How do you get through the day at work (and still function)?
  21. Trask give the phrase, "Thar' she blows!", an entirely new meaning.
  22. I am reminded of the Larry Niven SciFi novels I used to read as a teenager. In his stories there were "licensed nudists" who went among the rest of society with no one batting an eyelash.
  23. You need to explain it to us.
  24. I don't see why the Wilderness Act is being invoked at all. Rainier is not Wilderness Area. It is National Park. It is not subject to any such restrictions. My biggest concern after reading dkemps report above is that the guide services are being allowed to go to the head of the line on permits. How fair is that? They should be on an equal footing with independent climbers.
  25. Besides neutrinos they may install a gravity wave detector, judging from the statement about the Alpine Lakes being desirable from the standpoint of no motorized vehicles. Vibrations are the enemy in this case.
