I am a Bush hater. But I must say that going to Iraq to meet the troops was a good thing. It shows leadership and it is also very good politics. The Dem Pres candidates will keep their mouths shut on this if they know what is good for them.

If Al Jazeer is in league with the enemy, we should take them out. Period.

My Dad likes to tell the story of his visit to communist East Germany. They visited a farm. It was early evening and the workers had gone home for the day. The tools were all laying about in the field. The tractor was parked where it was at quitting time instead of being put in the barn. No one owned their own tools so they had no incentive to take care of them.

The military should have said, "Sorry, but we made a mistake. Shit happens in war." The military never admits to mistakes unless you have uncrontrovertible evidence they can't deny.

I'm going to ignore everything that came after the original post and comment on that. The question is what should we do about Al-Jazeera? If their coverage of the war is aiding the enemy, then we have a duty to shut them down. If this were peacetime then I would be all for freedom of the press, but as long as our boys are dying, we have to do whatever we can to protect them. If that means shutting down Al-Jazeera, then so be it. The other option is forcing them to comply with an agreement on how they cover news in Iraq.

Trask, you are so clueless. I took Physical Chemistry from the scientist who co-discovered the effect of chlorofluorocarbons on ozone, Dr. Sherwood Rowland. One of the things I remember is that bromine is far worse than chlorine in its potential to destroy ozone. There are other soil fumigants they can use besides methyl bromide. They just cost a little more. Do you want your kids to have an increased chance of skin cancer? I don't think so. The science is real. Believe it.

I flunked my first drivers test when I was 16. The tester used to love to take everyone past this blind alley to see if they would slow down. Of course you couldn't see the alley until you had gone past it and it was too late. So just about everyone lost points on the alley. I think you were allowed two gaffes. My other one was not getting far enough right before making a right turn. Anyway, I passed the second time around.
