Yes, gas would work, but why take a risk with something so volatile and flammable when something safe like detergent and water will work just as well, if not better? Gasoline is good at dissolving the old oil, but not as good at suspending dirt and grit as water. Dru is right about the lube. Get wax-based. These are the same as bicyclists use on their chains. The wax is dissolved in solvent base which evaporates. The wax left behind lubricates, but being a solid, the dirt doesn't stick to it. You should still wipe off any excess before it dries.

Can't wait to climb Outer Space with a certain well-known "effortlessly cool" climber. The melody "I Remember Clifford", by Benny Golson. Damn that icegirl is hot.

There is an easy down climb of which most parties avail themselves. The rappel in question is a double rope, low angle one down a dirty gully. I watched Buckeroo down climb it.

They are there. I have every confidence that you will find them. One thing I'm not really sure on is the second pitch. We may have stayed too far left and gone up an easy left facing corner. We think there may be more chicken heads and other "champagne bubbles" off to the right of that. Anyway, before launching off on the second pitch, look around for the higher quality climbing. I'm not even sure there is any one best way. It's kind of an adventure.

A couple of us are talking about doing either Clem's Holler and/or Pearly Gates on Friday. Let me know if you'd like to come along.

I just got a report on Kyes from someone who just climbed it. It is much more broken up than in 2002. I climbed it in both 2002 and 2003 and there was little difference, so its safe to say its worse than last year. Allow a little more time. My friend said they bivied on the Yellow Shoulder.

I guess he must be referring to posts in the capacity as moderator rather than what you do "behind the scenes".

Trask says (in so many words) that he disapproves of the why in which minx has been "over-moderating".

I was driving down Aurora Avenue in Shoreline yesterday on my way to a rehearsal. It was dusk and by this time most cars had their headlights on. There wasn't much traffic and I was going perhaps a little faster than I should have been. Up ahead in the right lane I saw an object. It was roughly square and black. As I drew closer, I could see it was moving and that it was... a guy in a wheelchair! He's right smack dab in the middle of the lane. I started to change lanes to pass him, but then I got the thought, "what if the next car doesn't see him?" So I slowed down and got behind the guy to protect him. Turns out he's going at least 25 mile per hour! After about half a block, he pulls right and onto the sidewalk. As I passed, I noticed he was wearing a black eye patch. I guess he was just a one-eyed paraplegic with a need for speed.

You'll have to wrestle to determine who gets to do the first pitch.

If you go all the way to the ridge you can rap off the back two raps and hike up to the OS walk off. Or, after completing the 5.6 chimney (really good-CrackBolter thought it was 5.8) walk right on a ledge and rappel from a tree- it a steep/ overhanging one. You scramble down the ridge and do some more raps down gullies and eventually find yourself in the Icicle side of April Fool tower. Don't stand under the "tick tree". Scramble up to the notch and rap down the other side and then traverse back to the Easter Tower notch and rap back down the "4th Class" gully. Don't hurt yourself like I did rapping into the chimney.

I've done this route. It's pretty good. You'll like it.

That 4th Class gully has a couple of 5.8 moves on it.

I can't believe this! This is so unbelievably suck, right at the start of the Spray Season. Why does Spray have to be civil? Spray is not a rose garden, my dear.

There were four (count em' FOUR) rappel rings on the anchor in question, along with three brand new slings. I took one of the slings and two of the rings, leaving a perfectly sound anchor, which we used ourselves.

Either that, or a Munter Hitch.
