Actually, in the first report it said they were asleep in their tents.

40 - 50, then 30+, now "at least 20" Not making excuses for idiots, just making an observation...

Then again you might run screaming from the Ushba Basic if you read the page I posted. Or you might not.

This web page has lots of details on top rope self belay, but does discuss the lead self belay devices too.

The switch is push-push like on the P-tec's. Easy to operate. Same price as the P-T.

I expressed sadness when Paul confirmed that he haad talked top the people involved, then I've gone to the best source I know to confirm further, and told you I will post if I find out more. If this strikes you as trying to discredit the story, then so be it. And, as I said already, I don't think Canadians are above this type of b.s. In fact I know they aren't, just some of us are.

Let's dig this old dog up again... Petzl now has the Tikka plus! Like the P-Tec Auruora, with I think, one major advantge. The switch is recessed, so harder to turn off in you pack. Also the new Myo family rox. LED and Halogen in one, with... AA batteries. YAY!

If you going to the bugs, PM me, I might be headed tht way this summer too.

Local media has been queried... They know nothing, but are going to ask the RCMP. I'll post if anything else comes up.

Is it so impossible for you to believe that violence CAN exist close to home? I say carry a hickory pick handle in the backseat and watch Eastwood in "Pale Rider" before you leave. No, not at all. In fact I know it can happen here. See fern's post. I dofind it hard to believe that something of that magnitude could happen in a town of this size, and that I would hear nothing about it. I work in a store where we see lots of travelling climber's, I know some of the local police force, and my boss is heavily involved in many local organizations and such. So we are out there, and we heard NOTHING. Leads me to doubt. So, like I said, I doubt the truth of THIS particular story.
-
No, not always tr city, but it is a risk you run there. These ones sound a bit rude though. TLG's right, there's always somewhere to avoid the crowds. Oh, and toproping is climbing too.
-
Same as I said before, that I doubt the truth of this story.

Check out the Kayland Spider K(evlar). It looks like a rock shoe you can walk in basically. I haven't tried it out, though a friend has a pair and likes them.

Actually the RCMP do go up to the parking lots in question, where there is a vandalism/theft problem. Solution? DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR!! It sucks, but stories like scott johnson's from Garabaldi Park do happen here. The best I can say is it probably had nothing to do with the WA plates on your car. As for the story in the initial post? I don't know anything of this. I would be suprised if it had happened, and there was no stories of it floating around town by now. How about some more details, Jarred? Especially what campground it happened in? 40-50 people is a pretty big gang. Are you sure of that number? And a friend's sister in-law's, brother in-law... Has all the makings of an urban legend. Could it be dru tired of the crowds at Squamish, trying to scare some traffic away?
-
PM me if you lost your helmet in Squamish on July 4.

Any one here dealt with Eastern Active Technologies ? I am mostly wondering if their gear stands up to real usage? It sounds like good stuff.
