Hey j_b, can I come over and watch All In The Family reruns with you? Your relaxed sense of humor is catching.

    Is He Dead?

Three days without power makes you appreciate how nice it is, especially when your water and toilet require it. How did you spend your weekend? I was cleaning up an f'ing mess. Nice array of snakes around now too.

    Trollin'

so will the big one...and with 2 1000-horse diesels, it does it in such good style. Arrghhh...I bet old Jim would enjoy a trip offshore, pounding through swells and enjoying the sense of power you have when you're burning that much diesel at one time.

    Is He Dead?

trust me, I'm a nordic-lookin boy. just a post-script...the morning after reveals an f'ing mess, some erosion, but no huge damage. people to the north of us took a bigger hit. funny how different high wind is in the lowlands compared to the alpine. It's like somebody pureed all the leaves in the area and blasted 'em in a slurry all over my place.

    Is He Dead?

er, I meant LANDline...yes, I've been drinking. disclaimer: that photo is not me, and my backyard is actually wilderness

    Is He Dead?

alive and well thank you...eye passed over my house...less flooding than expected...exciting wind. this battery-powered, lineline post took work!
  11. Update for TTT...who-hoo! havin' fun now Arrrrghh!! winds gusting up good now...won't be too bad if the water don't rise... later.
  12. I agree with the comment get ready to hurt if you're going off the slopes...I'd ski a few days on my own and then get lessons like Iain said. Do ya really want to buy gear at this point?
  13. hmmm...TTT, you've got a good idea. but it would have to be landline...I'm out in the serious boonies, with a 2-way satellite connection at home. On the very-exposed-and-windy point where I live, that dish is likely to be history.
  14. lummox, 'round here nobody wants you at their dock anymore during hurricanes, and marinas threaten to sue folks that leave'em there. We have sand and muck bottoms around here that can be dicey at anchoranges, especially with a bunch of idiots who anchor too close to other boats. Yep, she's double-anchored in the best-sheltered cove I know...now's not the time for me to chestbeat about my boating handling skills, lest I end up with a boat pictured in the news Friday!
  15. this is a big storm that was category 5 to begin with. true it may even blow down more before hitting shore...but good chance it'll hit NC coast with 100mph winds. I can expect a 6-10' storm surge at my house, and one hell of a lot of energy pounding on my seawalls. After most of a lifetime on the water, I've learned that the storm category is only part of the picture...where you are in the path, the size of the storm, the rainfall all are factors. thanks muffy!
  16. This thread seems like the appropriate place to confess that, yes it's true, RobBob sprays from the right coast (a few of you figgered it out, unless somebody got drunk and spread the word ). In fact I am looking down the snout of this fucker that will come barreling ashore on us in NC tomorrow. Sailboat is storm-anchored, sunroom windows boarded, and the wind is already 25-gusting 35 kts like a nor'easter on the water in front of my home. Family is shipping westward as I hunker down locally so's I can monitor the business interests. As somebody here said, big-weather shit like this has an element of excitement to it. On the other hand, I've got a lot to lose if the shit really hits the fan, and I can see it's unnerving for our little kids. Okay, I'm bracing for the duffelbag of shit you guys are about to give me for bein' an easterner. Now ya know that since I can only scam trips to the west every-so-often, I'm happy when I can tackle gumby dog-routes.
  17. Heading for Cape Hatteras...boy I've surfed some good waves there. Actually this hurricane has been downgraded a lot during the past 24 hours, but it's still big.
  18. Skeletor is the nickname I have for Arnold S's wife...
  19. Okay you butt-pirates...better keep away from Bloody Tom Vane!
  20. I have a strategy that has paid off in business. I want a reputation for being absolutely fair, but firm and tenacious when somebody's messing with our company. For real estate, boilerplate legal stuff, etc. I'll use a local attorney. For big contracts or negotiations or disputes, I always use a large, well-known regional or national law firm. You get straight-down-the-middle advice from people known to be thorough. In this manner I have tangled successfully with a couple of different Goliaths in the past. Your attorneys in this type of situation are your samurai. You may pay more for the services of the national firm, but it will pay off for you in the long run if the stakes are high in the issues you're dealing with.

    The Great Debate

Anybody else get a kick out of the democratic presidential debate last night? The man with the James Brown hairdo carried the evening IMO. If these guys whiten their teeth anymore, they're gonna look ghoulish. Sixty-year-olds sporting Christy Brinkley smiles.
  22. I particularly appreciated the continuing trail of pop-ups. Just because trask is a chubby-chaser, doesn't mean he needs to share it with us!

sisu, My welsh buddy said that the reason that his grandfather despised the French was because in WWI he watched them wipe their arses with their thumbs!
