    State Of The Union

Out of all the smarmy crap that Bush puts forth these days, I believe that the guest-worker policy is one thing that makes a lot of sense. What do you guys want...to continue to ignore the problem? If INS really pounced hard on industry, a huge number of business sectors would be crippled. Not just small business. Let's acknowledge that they are here, are needed, and let's get them here and back home in a managed way, instead of letting the existing underground system rip them off constantly.

    or Adam Ant?
  3. Willstrickland, do you want a medal or a chest to pin it on? Glad you read an article 4-5 months before I wrote about something 13 months ago. Maybe you should have written about it before me, then you really would have a right to play one-upsmanship. I wrote about Edwards back then because I knew who he was (old classmate of a close relative; I knew abt his career as a trial lawyer) and because, as I said, he struck me the same way Clinton did back in '91---a charismatic man whose ambition might take him further than most people would first believe. With less baggage than the rest of the field, he's potentially dangerous. A trial lawyer as president...ughhh.
  4. It's time to re-read "The Next Clinton" thread (12/19/02).
  5. Funny, not one of you hosers remembered the root of CBS's being, the source of the nerdy, gear-hound juices that permeate his otherwise normal-guy persona.
  6. Catbird must be preparing for a roadrace of some kind. All this recent talk of LD runs.
  7. Dwayner has a highly-developed sense of humor, as do several others here, including Timmy and Jon. Good laughs and clever writing are what keep me looking at this site daily instead of weekly or monthly. When avatars like Dwayner disappear, it's a loss. RobBob, MBA, BMF
  8. Why is this now in spray? BTW, I think the thin-skinnedness of the anti-Dwayners speaks far louder than any annoyance from Dwayner's drumbeat. He's hit a real nerve with some of you. Maybe you ought to explore why you resent him so much.
  9. Beer and wine are my only vices these days, and I claim to drink them for health. But I think back in wonder now when about how as a young man I continued to throw myself again and again at the wall of life.

    Anybody....

copies all over usenet...or at least for the 30 seconds or so that I witnessed. It's got everything I don't like packaged in one place: Major dumb attention-seeker who has a figure like a chicken bone, shaved bald, talks on the phone while having sex. If she were the last chick on Earth, I'd commit Sepuku today.
  11. Damn, I disappeared for 10 days and nobody even noticed...
  12. The gravitational force of the moon is obviously very strong, and it is accentuated when it is "full" ---lined up with the sun, so that they exert forces together (hence the highest "spring" tides). I think that some scientists also believe that volcanic activity can be activated by the moon's force, the theory being that oftentimes it only takes small "triggers" to snap geologic formations that are on the verge of movement or change.
  13. This past year wound up getting derailed in terms of meeting my outdoor objectives. I remember posting several goals: Run a marathon, a tri, climb Hood or Rainier, then later Mont Blanc. Well, two weeks into the new year my dad had a stroke, and I can tell you it changed my life (not to mention derailed my goals for the year). Luckily, my dad survived and after months of rehab he and my mom still live on their own...but after a long life of stellar health, life is a lot tougher for them. Normally I wouldn't post something this personal, but since Iain put the post above up there, I wanted to underscore the importance of what he said. All good things do come to an end. Do stuff with your parents while you can! In retrospect, despite the additional commitments, and missed goals (only completed the marathon...what the Hell, Mt Blanc fell down anyway), 2003 could have been worse. I am officially placing those missed goals this year as my targets for 2004. Frantic last-minute yearend work stuff calls. Happy New Year to you guys.

    funny movies

Okay, so the impulse buys while in the checkout line last night were old faves that I know will appeal to the extended relatives. No highbrow flicks here: -Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (a personal favorite; will put the kids to sleep) -Easy Money (Joe Pesci at the track!) -Kingpin
  17. Here's another way to get over that next ridge web page

Okay, what are some good, belly-laugh video titles that would make good watching during the holidays? Something along the lines of Dumb & Dumber, Office Space, Christmas Vacation. I need something new to take along to the extended family Christmas.
  21. but he would make some tie-in to bolting,...
  22. and for all you people who want to take mental self-mutilation to a new level there's trepanning. (I can't post this without noting that it's one of the grossest, most egregious forms of self-abuse I've ever heard of.)
  23. uh, scott, I hate to tell you this, but we fought and won WWII because of what was going on in Europe. I must ask just what the Hell political genocide has to do with weather-related deaths?
  24. Sorry, but the Christmas shopping calls...I look forward to playing your little game of gotcha again later, SC. Can someone please take over for me? RB
