  1. Ok... hehe... this should be good. How about this: Income taxes re-distribute wealth from those who have it to those that don't. The wealthy choose (even if they don't realize that they made the choice) to pay more in taxes because as bad as the IRS is, it is much better than having that wealth redistributed by more coercive means. To put it another way: The greater the number of people who are less wealthy than you, the greater the number of "payoffs" you have to make to keep them from trying to take away what you have by force. If you apply that to our skewed income curve you would probably find that the percentage of income required for "payoffs" would increase as income exceeded the median. (partilularly if the people who recieve the payoff collude) Flame on! (and yes I do know that I used income and wealth interchangably and that is wrong... just sick and wrong....)
  2. Actually they might very well be as strong or stronger as Alum. Nuts.... I have been seeing a lot of plastic popping up in new sailboat hardware mostly because it is stronger and lighter than the Aluminum it is replacing... We can let the Aussies fall on them for awhile and let us know what they think... A

  9. It just takes time.... if I remember... (and to remember anything right now is a real stretch for me) but if I remember "no more clipping bolts for Anna" was a thread topic just a few months ago. I just started leading trad, and I have spent a lot of time talking with people about the evolution of a trad leader... just take your time and go slow.... remember .... 5.6 is fun
  10. if thats what it takes.... but seriously.... tell me that I am not the only one who feels like this today... I remember satan's cheerleaders..... then a long walk.... I can't find my wallet... hey... that could be a blink182 song....

  15. well... this is an almost.... A friend I was climbing with got pretty sketched out by some really loose 4th class one time... so I threw down the rope and set up a quick anchor around a horn. I pounded on it, wiggled it... solid... I was just about to put said friend on belay and I thought to myself "hmmm maybe I should test it one more time... just barely tapped it .. and sure enough it came loose and started bouncning down the cliff missing now super sketched out friend by a few feet..... needless to say found a better anchor shortly there after...

Just look for two crazy curly haired irish men and one clombian (no need to tell you we're crazy that's common knowladge). A white toyota pickup, a blazer and two rather insane dogs, but they are hella cool. Well be there 'till monday night from the Seattle area. Be cool to have an extra person. there's... 5 .. no wait 6... um... no wait... 7 of us going down ... ah hell I don't know... there are a bunch of us going down... if you want to hook up look for a Blue Accura RSX S pulling in late tonight to the Bivy site

  22. yeah.... but can he shotgun a Schmidt?
  23. I know... I know... flame on... I didn't read the article that was in the news yesterday... and I should really come to class prepared... I just don't think that there the recreational market is where these things are going to go... I think that most likely you will see a lot of them going with people who have dangererous ocupations in remote places. A bush pilot in AK has an ELT that goes off if he crashes... but the state biologist who he drops off has nothing if he slips and breaks his leg. Sat Phones and Radios cost $$$ for agencies that are fighting tight budgets. Same in the private sector. Why send the field team in with a phone 2000.00 phone that costs several dollars per minute, when you can send them in with a 300.00 sat beacon.... I really, really don't think REI is going to sell many of these...
  24. my understanding is that these will fuction along the same lines as Marine epirbs etc. I think that their true calling would be for people on remote expetitions. I wouldn't take an epirb for a day sail on puget sound... but damn strait I test it before I go out in the pacific. I would imagine something along the same lines in the mountains...
  25. I have been through the program at NSCC and it is a great program. That said, I am letting my EMTB lapse and am going to get my WFR. I just don't see myself carying a defibrilator or O2 on a climb in the cascades. Still though, I would recomend it to anyone who wants to learn some solid emergency medical skills. It is a great expirence and you will learn alot of stuff at a great price. (Less than my WFR is going to be)
