Ironically, I am writing a paper about the polarization of the left and right in the post world war II era. it's interesting to see what all went into it. It wasn't always like this. One thing is for sure, the christian right has certainly made things worse.

Indeed Teddy did recognize the value of preserving wild land before the concept of the environment was even thought of.

In all fairness, you have to really measure all these guys against their era. In effect , you could consider Lincoln a racist today, since he didn't really support abolition until it seemed nescessary to hold the union together. One of Teddy's big accomplishments was stemming the tide of big business gaining more and more power. Unfortunately the trend seems to be reversing today...

It's prudent to note that the republican party of then is closer to the democratic party of now. Obviously there are bigtime blurs in the lines, but take Teddy, for example. He certainly represented the "liberal" side of the line as compared to his foes. New England was a republican stronghold back in the day

Teddy Roosevelt and FDR. Must be something about the name? As I said in another post, for being just an all-around genuinely good person, Carter takes the prize. He's the nelson mandela of the U.S. if that makes sense.

Good post, FW. If history remembers you kindly, the bad is swept under the rug. If you are remembered poorly, the good is swept under the rug.

I guess my take is yes, he was a lousy prez, but there is still no reason to celebrate the guy dying. That should be saved for certain select individuals: hitler, stalin, osama, castro, shrub.

Sorry to be dense, but what is "the fisher"??

I was simply asking and taking a shot at the south. I have no idea why fairweather called him the best and worst prez. He'll have to explain that.
-
How was Lincoln the worst? By persuing reconstruction. I would tend to agree...this country would be better off without the south.

Was that this past year? If I knew the year maybe I could compare snow packs to get an idea...

FAirly common. I've seen them on the side of the road before.

Well, my mom and I got this thing made. I should really say her because about all I helped with was cutting the fabric and a little bit of sewing. We ended up using this double sided fabric tape that washes away for holding the sheets together for sewing. Making something this large out of sil-nylon without it would be next to impossible I think. The end result is a perfect copy of the "real" megamid floor, except about half the weight. Now I need to find out some way to add just a bit of grip to the bottom of it. I wouldn't recommend this project unless you are expert seamstress. Maybe it's easier than I think, but it sure seemed like what she was doing was hard. She has been sewing for longer than I've been alive so it wasn't too much of a project for her!

Donnelly came along with Sky, the Hummels and I a few weeks back. Definitely a badass skier! I give him props for doing that approach in actual alpine ski boots!

Not many, but it does happen every few years. I once found a list of sightings. Apparently they are very reclusive in addition to being rare.

Thanks for all the info. So from what everybody is saying, it sounds like this time of year I am still going to find lots of snow? I like the looks of the terrain without the snow so I'm not sure I want to go and posthole around. Are there specific parts of the range I might wind what I want or should I just wait a bit? thanks!

Does anybody know where I would go about getting the best info on backpacking and climbing (low-grade stuff you could solo...so scrambling really) in Wyoming? I would be interested in BBSs like this, books, web pages, etc. I'm interested in the wind rivers, snow range, and anything else scenic. Also, I imagine the high country in the rockies melts out much faster than around here. Considering their summers are much hotter, do you think this time of year would be good for a visit? thanks!

Icegirl seems to come to the defense of both Fat_Teddy and Martlet. Considering they are both non-climbing right wing sprayers, it's a possibility they are one in the same. Who cares tho, they are both morons.

Jesus...the world's greatest salesman. Isn't there some book by that title? "Christianity and Communism...both perfect ideas on paper, and utter failures in the real world" - my late, great grandfater.

Hilleberg Nallo 2/ Bibler I/ Stephenson 3R- Best?
JoshK replied to Fuggedaboudit's topic in The Gear Critic
FYI...The integral tents use the same fabric as the biblers. "Todd-tex" is just the name for that DuPont PTFE laminate and fuzzy lining. Compare the "cups" that hold the poles in the corners between the biblers and the integral. The biblers use this small little "button" that you have to get the pole into. The integrals use a big strong hypalon-type pocket that you could get the pole into even if you were blind. The integral design is wwaayyy better...that is what sold me. The lower price helped too. -
Just remember that it was Reagan that prevented the US from going metric. Ouch...now that sucks.

I, for one, am a huge GPS geek. For some reason I just think it's the coolest thing. We can also thank the U.S. military for those great aerial photos we can get. The commercial sattilites that are now up there are as a result of the military developing that technology.
