  1. They can't be too happy and afrid he is going to "alienate" voters...after all he got quite a few more votes than the shitbag president last time around.
  2. I ordered the fabric so hopefully it will be here in a few days. My project is to create a silnylon version of the megamid floor. I can't justify hauling the heaving floor when I got the lightweight canopy, so I'll try my luck on creating my own. Well, actually, my mom will probably do the sewing, but I'll help cut, etc. I'll post some pics and a writeup assuming all goes well. I'm hoping it won't be a terribly hard project because it's all big right angle cuts...nothing much precision.
  3. Dru, that is exactly the case in Oregon. The doctor only provides. The patient administers. I suggest some of you naysayers go rent a copy of the movie Wit, and after watching it in its entirety see if you feel about the subject the same way you do now. Unless you have been confronted with a slow and extremely painful death, you might not know what to think on the subject. I've had to think a lot about this since my wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer four years ago. I watched both my grandma and grandpa (both unfortunately young) die this way. It was extremely sad. catbird, I'm sorry to hear about your wife, that is really tough.
  4. The right wing approach to this is about as stupid as their approach to abortion vs. the death penalty. I will at least give the catholic church credit on one thing (though they are fucked up on everything else) they are consistent. They say no abortion, no death penalty. The right wing conveniently defends the life of an embryo that most likely has no sentient (sp?) thought but denies the life of a murderer. I dont like murderers and more than the next guy, but I dont want to live in a society that sanctions state sponsered killing. Another hypocrisy...we dont allow assasinations of foreign leaders who could possibly have killed millions, but we do allow the execution of a murderer who is one of our own citizens. It all just doesn't add up.
  5. A titanium thong? Hmm...not so sure about that. Maybe I should make my GF a silnylon thong? haha
  6. Yup! Thru-hiker is where I found it cheap. Great store! Now I am trying to think of something I can make out of titanium
  7. I called seattle fabrics and they sell the 1.3oz for $11.50 a yard. I found the 1.1oz online for only $5.25 so that seems like the way to go.
  8. Does anyone know where I could go about getting sil-nylon fabric in large sheets?
  9. You can't just elect to have your mom killed off. Only the patient can make the decision (must be found mentally competent to make the decision on their own) and, like I said, has to be diagnosed with less than 6 months to live. I see what you are saying, it's obviously the argument of the right wing, along with the sanctity of life crap, but I don't see a high likelyhood of abuse under the oregon law.
  10. C'mon, I have no desire to see a dude shooting some white substance into another dude's mouth. What you do on your own time is none of my business...
  11. It requires the consent of two doctors (not in the same practice, I believe??) and a confirmation of mental stability. There are safeguards. It's not like some doctor can right up a note, kill you, then claim you wanted to die. Also, it is only available for those patients who have been diagnosed with less than 6 months to live. There isn't any medical reason not to allow it, it's just bushie (and asscroft's) pandering to the religous right and their "sanctity of life" bullshit.

    Dannyism?

It really isn't *that* hard. I'm sure with a couple of weeks of getting in shape I could do it again. I'm sure you'd beat me tho because, if I recall, you are fairly tall. I have short legs to contend with.

    Dannyism?

I think it's closer to 3k or even 3,500k. When I say hike, gowans, I mean a speed hike. I didn't mean your average trail hike speed. I've done it, so I certainly know it's possible. I guess I shouldn't have made it sound like a walk in the park, it's not, but it's certainly within reason. Doing nearly twice the time with a big pack is certainly doable. I was simply backing up the fact that I doubt the dude was lying.
  14. Why exactly is reaffirming the state's right to allow doctor assisted suicide a "wacky" decision? Give me a break. Terminally ill patients should have the right to die with dignity should they choose. Oregon is the only state that has this right, frankly. Bush's (and most of the right wing) position that patients should have to suffer to the end is just completely idiotic.
  15. I was just comparing your pics here with some pics I have from almost this exact same time, 2 years ago. It's night and day. Most obvious, the lake is still frozen! The snowpack is obviously much different too. If I didn't know I would say my pics look at least a month, if not 2 months earlier in the season.
  16. Speaking of buckner, I'd recommend the NF coulior as a better climb (more asthetic, IMHO) but that moat has got to be a total bitch to cross later in the season. It was a major pain in the ass back in April.

    Lance Is Back!

I remembered this on my forest service mandated 12 mile bike ride the other day. I have clipless pedals, and I came back feeling like I'd worked some muscles I hadn't used in a long while.

    the "liberal media"

Rush Limbaugh is quite successful due to his ability to gain massive followings of likeminded hateful idiots. Michael Moore might be bad, but Mr. Limbaugh is the original fatass windbag.

    Dannyism?

That doesn't sound too extreme. You can do it in less than an hour fairly easily with a fast hike. I can't imagine twice the time with a big pack is too hard for somebody in shape.
  20. I frankly never really got the appeal of phish. I never found them that good.
  21. What do you mean by "in condition"?? The later you go the more likely you'll find very hard snow or ice. The earlier you go you are more likely to find softer conditions.

    Lance Is Back!

He's the exact opposite of a "lightbulb"...you know, those tools you see at the gym who spend 5 days a week working on their upper bodies only to have legs that look like sticks.

    Lance Is Back!

Pro cyclists are esentially skeletons with giant fucking quads. it's like a formula 1 car. A 1000hp engine packed in a totally lightweight frame for doing one thing...going fast.

  25. Way to get it man I guess I'll be making the move to volcanoes soon...hehe...despite my bitching there is still good stuff to be had, it just requires a little more trail travel than normal. What is really shocking is the places the snow has melted off on higher faces, etc. You can still string together a line for the most part, but the peaks definitely have a very melted out look to them. My other perspective is this...for lots of folks this is the best "slogging season"...most glacier climbs are done in may, june, july when the approaches are snow free but the glaciers aren't too broken. I can still enjoy a good slog...they are scenic and have good opps. for photos. Plus I can go with friends who aren't as technical. If I have the ability to carry the extra weight of skis with me, why not take them and enjoy the ride down rather than complain about postholing down in mid day slush.
