I just got the 45. I went with the smaller one cause it can carry way more than 45 with minimal extension. One huge plus is this tihng carries skis awesome even tho it wasn't really designed as a ski pack. the tails slide beneath the bottom compression strap (protected by hypalon) so you can still lash stuff to the side with the strap. It's an awesome setup for attaching skis and boots to the pack to reduce width over the stupid boots in teh ski arrangement.

Yeah, the buck creek approach is the way I would go...I was up there the other day. But you still have to cross the suittale at some point, right? OK, I thought I had seen it all with PC. In a history class we are currently discussing the 60s. So today a few minutes before history class I see the prof talking to some girl in the class. Everybody in the room is talking so obviously I have no clue what they are talking about. As soon as class starts he annouces that he was talking to shelly (or whatever he said her name was) and she pointed out that "hippie" could be considered a pejorative word, and we should see if we could come up with a different word. I couldn't fucking believe it. We can't call hippies...hippies? Since when is that insulting? Hippies refer to themselves at hippies. This had to be the most idiotic PC moment I have ever witnessed.

Has anybody climbed GP from this side? From arieal photos, it almost looks like going straight up chocolate creek might be the most reasonable approach from the suittale river trail, rather than whacking through the forest. I can't tell from the picture but it looks like the river bed is an old volcanic mud flow or something. It looks fairly flat. Anybody have a guess?

The Murano and Pacifica have to be two of the most ridiculous vehicles on the road. I honestly wonder if all those Murano owners even looked at the vehicle before purchasing. I just can't see somebody saying "wow, this is a great looking car"

LOL...no thanks. I like to drag the skis along but I have no love for skiing on firn or other such completely dirty nastinest. They do work good for jumping crevasses tho. In fact, it's a mounties approved method!

Pro Mountain Sports has carred those DMM cams for quite a while now. I've checked them out in the store and they certainly look nice. As you said, really really light. Check them out there if you feel like supporting somebody other than REI.

Cool, thanks for the advice, all. It's one of those climbs that looks cool mainly for the setting and views. Obviously I would agree there are certainly better looking and more challenging alpine rock climbs out there...

by some definitions of spring, it is still spring and will be right up until june 21. however, midsummer eve is less than one month away, the implication of this datum is that this is early summer. arguably, one could say it is sprummer right now. what it isn't is ski season. I did the ptarmigan traverse, baker N ridge and glacier peak frostbite ridge all in june last year and all were awesome skis with minimum foot travel once you hit the start of snowline. I realize some folks don't like to ski at this time but for those of us that do, this year is much worse than normal.

Sky, I would normally agree, but man, it's slim pickings for this time of year. I was shocked to see how much had melted in the past few weeks. There is still plenty to get tho, just requires a little more effort. Who knows, maybe I'll head back in as soon as the road opens all the way (they said they were hoping for this weekend) and give it a shot again. Since I want to do it on foot anyway, it's neat to compare it snow vs. not. What is the definition of true joy? Having your ski tails hit the back tire of your bike!

Yeah, and he'll probably live longer because of it. Wow, amazing stuff...I can't believe climbing that hard, let alone that many hard pitches in one climb.
