  1. traditionally, WLL is a rating in kg. For instance, a tri-link will be stamped 900kg. If you wanted a breaking strength, I believe the calculation would be (900kg)(9.81m/s^2)(5) = 44,145N, or 44 kN.
  2. I hope none of you were hoping to run for congress or anything. This site has some pretty good "dirt" to be dug up at a later date on the campaign trails.
  3. A bunch of gauze is always useful and light, or at least something you'd be willing to soak up large amounts of blood with. And an ace wrap or similar. Several pairs of nitrile gloves would be good, as once you get one set bloody, you can't do much else, and also you can give them to people to assist you. Steri-strips and Benzoine are a nice touch for minor lacerations (esp. on the face, when it will be a long time before you get out of the backcountry), but you need to practice with them. Don't carry too much, because in reality, there's just not much in a first aid kit that can help someone who is really hurt. You can improv. a lot if you are willing to get gear bloody.
  4. helpful response! My tele friends seem to like BD sabertooths since you can extend the frontpoints by moving the wire bail back a notch.
  5. or "prusik", if you want a higher hit return on searches.
  6. places like safeway have moleskin.

  8. that's good television. roll 'em!
  9. ttips - the sesame street of bulletin boards. some of that stuff is nauseating.
  10. ...and then catbirdseat showed up out of nowhere, rallying for a latenight scrabblefest with triscuits and grape juice, followed by an epic discussion involving obscure climbing scenarios and inappropriate knots.
  11. dude I'm already at the laundry room
  12. damn foo's pimpin style is weapons grade.
  13. that's criminal
  14. Aww, I miss the puppy cam. P.S. I would not touch that green blanket for 1 million dollars.
  15. I'm glad she's using gloved protection to fondle that shaft. salomon sucks!
  16. yes your skull dyno to the bucket on toxic was very impressive but you need not brag so.
  17. It's close, pretty pristine basalt. One issue would be getting the tube intact across the mid-atlantic ridge, which spreads at the rate of your fingernail growth each year, accompanied by intense seismic and magmatic activity.
  18. is "flying dutchman" above free for all somewhere?
  19. yes, that's the guy, and he's there pretty much 24/7. I often wonder if he sleeps there.
  20. hey mrs. alden your website is down. couldn't connect to http://nodderlady.com
  21. They have a hard enough time maintaining the cables lying on the ocean floor, never mind this ridiculous idea.
  22. I think that's called squashed spider. A game to play on that climb is you are not allowed to move your hands above your waist.
  23. Is Jim the one who has some interesting teeth? I remember witnessing both the chains going in, and the subsequent removal event not one week later. Call me a wuss but I find some bolts at the end of a pitch better than doing a 10 minute search for fixed pitons nestled around corners. Oh well.
