Why do the screaming barfies hurt so bad? I've had them when skinning for a long time (hands above my heart, gripping ski poles in the cold), then I stop and swing my arms like carolyn does, and that's when the agony has set in. It has been almost unbearable before. I've found taking the time to keep my hands below heart level for a bit really helps get that blood in there, and if my hands are cold I do a _thorough_ job getting them completely warm again (waiting for the agony to go away!) It's usually on those days were you take your gloves off for a minute to deal with something, then realize you have lost the motor skills to zip up your coat! Ack.

let's cut the bullshit, shall we? V4 is hard, except for those idiots who waste all their time bouldering.

I have slept in ski boot liners before and I thought it was agonizing. Scarpa Invernos with the stock liners are very warm indeed. If you wind up in really wet riming conditions, however, the tongue has no gussets on it so water just strolls on in to your liner.

ahh, early season Pucci, the rocks were delightfully sharp today and as usual Pucci was a blistering 45 minute ride to the top. I thought you would be out there. I was the guy not in the pmr threads, but not in the full camo w/jeans either. you must have been cleaning up the mess when someone fell off the chair. I got to tell the people on the lift to sit tight for 5 minutes and was summarily yelled at to fix the chairlift. there is some great powder to be had in some of the gullies on palmer right now, that is if you can see it before you plow right into it and faceplant. or alternatively, fall off a 10 foot berm in the flat light. fun!

I like running because it puts you in the mental battlecage much like climbing does. When you stop working hard while running, you stop. It's easy to cheat yourself on the bike (at least for me), coasting here and there, dropping a gear, etc. Running builds up the mental discipline of dealing with pain, fatigue, and even boredom, a lot of which are encountered on approaches to climbs and parts of the climbs themselves. I definitely think you can develop a mental edge running in the cold and rain. Plus it's fun, sort of.

I would hope (I have not used lasers) that the plastic is less stiff in the laser than the denali for touring's sake. The denali xt was really stiff for an AT boot, and the newer one is even stiffer! Don't they have to tack on a dynafit tax to any boot that gets the fittings? like $100 or something, I've heard.

Inside the mind of a potential avalanche victim

ISSW must be like a party at the playboy mansion. I missed out this year! -
I hear that Tacoma production is being moved to Mexico from the USA if it has not already. I agree that Subarus are overpriced and also consume a surprising amount of gas (the new ones). They seem to rev high at cruising speeds, maybe that's where the gas goes. They seem to have a lot of happy owners though, so there's something there. I've always liked the frameless doors. They have yet to produce a functional cup holder.

One issue I have run into with b.c. snowboarders has been they naturally take a different line of descent on a lot of stuff to find the consistent steepest line to keep moving. It is easy to get split up in the trees and hard to control or lead a group mixed with boarders and skiers, since it is a pain for boarders to have to meet up in the same spots skiers do, and skiers often don't take that into account. Then of course there is the obligatory flat meadow crossing in powder where a lot of towing ensues. There are certainly b.c. tours where boarders keep up no problem, often on car to car runs up stuff. Often this is not the case though. I don't think too many people can keep up with boarders on breakable crust though.

But before that, I'm going to do some more field study on my other pet projects, namely the perchloric acid KY Jelly substitute and the plutonium hamburger.

Yes clearly this is a call for additional research into high-speed homemade lava lamps. An inspiration, really.

your avatar picture pretty much sums up GWB's attitude toward the PNW salmon.

Well apparently it blows in this case.

Riders attached to unrelated politically-pressured legislation are a disgrace to our system of government. They should be outlawed! -
I thought subarus were made in indiana.

Evolution is theory, not fact. If compelling evidence were introduced tomorrow that the principles of evolution are false, the new evidence would be analyzed, debated, and subsequently incorporated into the working theory of our past, even if it goes against what the scientific community considered fundamental today. Obviously there are egos to be damaged and theses to be thrown out the window, but science itself would move forward and eventually embrace new information. This is the main difference I see between evolution and creationism. The "truth" model is subject to change based on new evidence.

Ugh. -
Exactly, it says something about how you present yourself here. If by "ascertation" you mean "assertion", I didn't declare it as fact.

I wonder why the impression is there then, seeing as you are obviously such a rugged stallion of a man...who apparently spends half the time staring at a computer monitor... Unfortunately I am posting this from a coffee shop so I can't really claim to be a cubicle jockey.

You come off more as a spoiled college kid playing pretend redneck than as a true redneck on this board. Dunno if it's true, but it is truly entertaining.
