  1. word round here is that the Ice Sack is not what it used to be (i.e. a few years ago?)
  2. actually the schrund is fun to check out. I like climbing w/ it there.
  3. The US military has a recent solution for preventing heat shunts to the core when you get cold. It involves spending time in a cold room with your hands and feet in warm water, then in a hot room with your hands in cool water. It has been tested and proven that one can build up a resistance to the shunting mechanism, though your body is doing it to protect vital organs. I'll try to get the source documentation.
  4. ?
  5. Simpson's on that list too. Brit
  6. Wuss who broke his legs on the Ogre back in '77(?) Fortunately another Brit to the rescue!
  7. so's margret thatcher what a hottie. she knows who's boss.
  8. I'd agree there, beacon searches are a lot different when they are buried deeply (digitals reading 3ft distance when right on top of transmitting beacon for instance, throws people off). Well cheers for the motivating contest anyway.
  9. James Bond has cooler cars a gets laid more often than the CIA. That's straight-up fact all you Uncle Sams
  10. everyone showing up at the same place w/skis on (if skiers) and av. gear in pack (and beacons strapped in). stuff like that
  11. It's a pointless contest because conditions of the contest are not controlled.
  12. ...oh, and the 40 people (at this point) who died in a fiery train accident in Zimbabwe

    Opposed prusiks

I do, and they prefer the term "caver". Sorry to invoke such a strong response! Just saying climbing is also full of a bunch of trivial stuff that can distract from what is important at times. I'm sick of debates over what core temp is considered advanced hypothermia, markers on ropes, etc, etc.
  14. dru you might be on to something. I get cold hands really easily too, and my resting is low 40's. I also seem to be really susceptible to mild frostbite, but that may be more to do with being exposed to that condition repeatedly.
  15. we all know your real intention was to have a raptor egg omelette.
  16. I didn't say I didn't like it! It's an awesome place to ski with good snow (sometimes too much good snow). Just keeps you on your toes.
  17. I found it creepy skiing in Rogers Pass last time I was there. Plenty of terrain to slide and a twisted transitional climate to boot. It is an initimidating place to ski from an avalanche hazard standpoint.
  18. Summit shots of that climb are some of the best I've seen in climbing. I need to get out to SE Utah again, it has been a long time. The Escalante area is totally mindblowing.
  19. That Ancient Arts route looks gripping.
  20. Boy it is pouring here in Portland right now. Hope this turns into some snow up high but freezing level's still up there.

yeah the shots from timberline looked promising today but telemetry reads 42 degrees F at top of the Magic Mile with average winds at a breezy 55, gusting to 71. break out the tshirts and sunscreen. snow is falling though, at times.
