I just went back and reat the whole parent thred to this, because it is pertaining to my life in an odd way. life imitates art or art imitates life or some shit. any way... people fuck up in the hills and mountians. sometimes because they were ill prepared and always because luck was not on their side. to me it seems ill advised to go about something unprepared. Luck I can not controle. I can be as prpared as I am willing to be. from there I have put my self in the situation and the consequences are mine. and I must face them. climbing, hiking, backpacking, do not happen to you... you choose to do them. thanks guys for all the pertant stuff. it helps to be able to come here and read alot of diffrent oppions about a topic that is on my mind. last time I checked you weren't married... if you were you would find the apropriate way to say " if I am not back from climb x on day z call so and so..." this is actualy a realy good idea. it takes the burden out of the hands of the person who is likely to be freaking out the most.

Yuppies: Young, healthy, fit people with enough disposable income and time to explore new sports on a whim, rather doing so out of dedication. Thereby increasing the number of people at the crags who don't take the sport seriously, and pose a danger to themselves and others. Not to say there aren't stupid poor people too, there's just less of them with $1000+ worth of gear. That would indicate to me they'd be more likely to use good judgement in such an activity than someone at the crags who's never so much as taken a belay test. But they still regulate helmet usage on motorcycles. So your point is.... could not have said it better myself
