I'd guess that route has been climbed well over a thousand times with the bolts right where they are. I haven't done it since they were all 1/4" but as I recall as things get harder the bolts get more frequent. Maybe you're just trolling, but if you really want to sport bolt some slab route I suggest you go find your own area and develop it rather than adding bolts to very popular crags. If you wanna be an artist, go stretch your own damn canvas rather than painting over someone else's. FYI, the bolts on Online were put in on the lead, in one of the first uses of cordless drills that I'm aware of. This was pre Bosch & Hilti days, I think they used some 12v system, but David Whitelaw, who posts here occasionally, could give you a better report on the FA. I'm no anti-bolt warrior, but even I would help fund Retrosaurus to go pull any bolts you added and fill the holes. Sweet Jesus lad, if you see retro-bolts being added to climbs all the time and don't hear any complaining, you must need to have your fingers surgically removed from your ears.

It occurs to me that some here may know John Wason, from Ventura, Truckee, Bozeman, Flagstaff, Bellingham, Olympia, and New Hampshire. He was recently injured high on the face (I don't know which route) by a sizable falling rock that broke tib-fib and shattered an ankle. Long Doug-Scott-On-The-Ogre style self-rescue retreat, complete with partner falling unroped into crevasse while fetching sled, resulted in successful evacuation.

If you want to carry over, N. Ridge has some great bivy pads where you first hit the ridge, and you could easily stamp out some decent accommodations on the snow sections of the ridge proper. We went in a day from below the Quien Sabe, and I found it to be a rather long day. I'm sure others have found it a reasonable roundtrip. Realistically assess your own speed and decide from there. Great route though, I highly recommend it.

Yeah, Lummox has a good point, and though I haven't been there in awhile, I think AK has a good idea. In a heavily modified widely used habitat, the idea is stewardship, not wilderness. As a former (way former) Southern Californian, I used to be a lot gooshier about trees, but as a long time landowner up here, I've witnessed some of the enormous regenerative power of our climate and flora, and I don't worry so much anymore. I'd say some thoughtful (volunteer!) work by an arborist would improve the crag. Think of it like a haircut: if you don't like it, it will grow out faster than you think. With regards to Lummox's point, who exactly occupies the land manager slot in the food chain with regards to Index? It's worth checking out before acting, but one does sometimes have to be careful about the questions one asks, since you don't always get the answer you want to hear.

There is a german film of the same idea, shamefully ripped off (by many exact copies of processes) by the Honda team, that runs for twenty some minutes, and makes more use of chemical energy as well, that was all shot in one take. Don't get me wrong, the Honda ad is very entertaining and all, but it's blatant plagarism that they don't seem to even vaguely acknowledge. Since we own a copy of the earlier film I could dredge up title and other info in case anyone is interested.

Hey, I've earned every year. However, it should be noted that my favorite version was by Fitz of Depression.

I'm pretty sure I read where Sharon used the "occupation" description of what's been going on. Translation error?

On the other hand, I've found the hours between 5am and 7am to be very productive, so you could just start getting up earlier.

Try a super soaker filled with a mixture of ammonia and water. If you really wanna go over the top, use a fly attractant from a feed store, but don't spill it in your room.

Worry wart. I suppose you also wear a mask to avoid SARS, always use a paper toilet seat cover, and are sure to avoid sidewalk cracks out of concern for your dear old mother.

Taking it to a new level of cryptic brevity. I salute you

So think of Data Transfer as quantity and Bandwidth as speed. They're offering unlimted quantity at a relatively slow speed.

No, I believe the fan you hear cools the power supply. CPU fan is small and quiet.

As was pointed out elsewhere around here, John Stuart Mill also said, "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives." Besides, no one is asserting that nothing is worth fighting for, just that Bush and Powell were lying about what we're fighting for now.

Is one of those the largish dome over by the ne end of Omak Lake, accessed via the boat ramp road?

I believe Beck knows the area pretty well, send him a pm.

My 11 year old has struggled with spelling. She used to say she didn't care about it, but when I pointed out that at a certain point, all other people see is the misspellings, and her ideas are discounted, then she decided it mattered and has been steadily improving. One small defense of Fence Sitter's cavalier approach to letter arrangement: teh is not usually a misspelling, its one of those very common typos for people who touch type.

Damn, you make it sound like you've seen it before. Anyway, I had fun arguing back and forth with Fence Sitter, regardless of the root of the issue. My apologies if you felt compelled to sit in against your will.

I don't think we've allowed the Makah to hunt for reasons of conscience, and for sure the courts don't recognize that argument. I really think its all about the treaties, which are essentially contracts we have entered into with what we agreed at the time to treat as soverign nations. That's what makes the whole issue so meaty, what happens when you make different agreements with different entities? Truth be told, I don't know the right of it, and my personal feelings on Makah whaling are pretty mixed, but I know its not about feeling sorry for the Indians (yes, that term is widely used within Indian Country itself). As they themselves assert, they don't want special treatment, they want the US to keep its legally given promises.

I DO NOT want to know what you've been eating.

No, I'm arguing that if you give something to someone, you can't then give it away to someone else. Lets bring the idea down to an even more personal level: If I gave you a new rope, I couldn't then tell Erik to drop by your house and take it.

That's not what I heard from Dan -! Seems like I have the 5 hour number stuck in my head for time from Olympia, where we don't have an easy option to east of the mountains. The same amount of time gets one to Squamish, which usually wins that coin toss for me.
