  1. It must be time to recycle this link: Nutball
  2. Went there Thurs 6/26 to Sun 6/29 with group of friends & family, fun was had, nice in shade, hot in the sun, mosquitos periodically vexing. Reported a nascent forest fire we spotted while driving about while it was still under a 1000 sq ft, felt like a good citizen.
  3. You'll shoot your eye out kid!!! OHMIGOD that is my all time favorite x-mas movie Well, I didn't see the movie, but that is my nephew's real life experience, except he accidentally put out the eye of his best friend rather than his own.
  4. GW, I know you've got a pic of the Duke for your avatar, but you're more like the horse pulling his wagon what with the blinders you're wearing.
  5. I think Glen has the motive nailed, but your work is really funny Klar. His stuff has been deleted, and I think the settings have been changed so that guests can no longer post photos.
  6. That's probably true, but they do provide excellent source material for covers. The Hellacopter's over-the-top version of Gimme Shelter and Cat Powers languid disappaited take on Satisfaction come to mind.
  7. I thought seeing Hells Belles live, an all female ACDC cover band, was probably better than seeing the original act.
  8. I believe Thrutch was also an Australian climbing rag.
  9. Does removing a faceplate really deter thieves? I'm looking for a little real world experience, has anyone had their deck stolen despite missing faceplate?
  10. And to think I've used "thrutch" sucessfully in a Scrabble game... Great TR by the way.
  11. I dunno CBS, I really hate trailer driving, especially if you're headed up some overgrown forest service road carved into the hillside with who knows what for a turn around. I like the VW Westfailia Vanagon for a camper, but it is sort of a quirky cult vehicle. The camping set up is nice, the turning radius is amazing, and the mileage is decent. Underpowered, but within reason, and unlike the earlier air cooled vans it does have real heat and doesn't consume an engine every 50,000 miles. I really like the pop top feature, its great to be able to stand up inside, but not have some big rigid roof extension. It works for me, but I know other folks that hate 'em. The nickname Westfail-ya is not totally unearned, but I've had reasonable luck. In the american made vein, I've had a number of Ford econoline's as work vehicles, and while they're dependable, the mileage blows. I've known too many people with Dodge caravan nightmares to make those appealing to me, but some folks love 'em.
  12. I heard on the news that they had their judgement distorted by reading too much gung ho do it in a day aiding in the rain beer drinking cheating death chestbeating drivel on some internet site.

not if you're from the south: I cay-un mahnadge
  14. pollution, people, and hot like you wouldn't believe. Damned evil burning orb in the sky just won't go away. Phoenix also has enough pavement and other mass that it just doesn't cool down at night much either. Tucson was better, though still damned hot 6 months of the year, at least back in 1985 when I lived there for a bit. Well, actually I guess the town was a bit of a hole, best described as Queens with palm trees, but it was smaller and easy to get out of, and ringed with mountain ranges and climbing areas.
  15. Mt Lemmon is actually a pretty good sized peak, 9157' at the top with a ski area (okay, small ski area) on top, in the Santa Catalina Mountains just north of Tucson. Round about the midpoint it starts growing some good sized ponderosa pines, which carry on to the summit. There are great crags distributed all over the mountain, and generally speaking, you can find the right temperature somewhere on the mountain at any time of year. It can be too cool for shorts in August on the top. There is probably at least as much climbing on that mountain as all of Leavenworth, Darrington, Index, Static, Vantage, and Tieton combined. If I recall, they had a really bad fire season last year too. What a bummer to have happen to such a great place.

  17. Is it just me, or has anyone else out there started talking to themselves in Strongbad's voice?

Dru's got some good stuff on his list. I'd add: Shadowy Men from a Shadowy Planet The Monoxides Mecca Normal Evaporators The Goblins cub and I'll say DOA again because its true.
  20. I've got a pair, they are effectively hinged by that bar, which the heel piece slides along to make them more compact for packing. My son has been the one to use them, since my old Salewa's won't quite adjust out to fit his monster feet, but they seem just fine. I think the Stubai's are a bit lighter, but I don't know that they're $50 lighter.
  21. Hatch's position probably has nothing to do with the fact that he made over $20,000 last year on royalties on songs that he wrote (! Insert barfing gremlin here). Here's a link to an article on it: web page
  22. Greg, you are such a meany head.
  23. So that makes you a big dick?
  24. NE Buttress, starts probably a third of the way up Asgard. That whole side of the peak is an interesting assemblage of cracks and pretty good rock. We did the usual alpine line-of-least-resistance thing, but there were a number of good looking lines that had me thinking if it were close enough to the road to be a day crag, ala SCW, it would be packed with good routes.
  25. Remember, when you're in Western Washington, garter snakes are our friends! Of course, over in Der or Tieton, all bets are off.
