So I've got these lightweight Camp crampons, pretty old, that we've always called the "candy crampons" because they're so brightly colored and just don't seem like they'd hold up. Now, I'm seeing more and more of these things and wondering if I can trust the things. What I'm mostly worried about is that they are not hinged. The backs and fronts are only connected with the metal strip with the multiple adjustment holes in them. I am worried that if I walk very far in these things with a flexible boot (i.e. approach shoes) that this metal strip is gonna get flexed enough times to just break due to metal fatigue. What do you guys think about this? Crampons busting in half on me, on icy snow, when I've got approach shoes on and have got just a lightweight axe or no axe, is not what I want happening.

Yeah, like what do you do if you got little tykes with you? You can't run then. And whatta you do if thug has a whole fucking army and is dropping fucking bombs on your house, and not even your own police can do shit because they're already dead? Or what if some fuckers come and just knock down the walls of your house right onto your sleeping kids? Whatta you do then? Do you get guns and make bombs out of anything you can, and fight?

Yep. Classic "read the fine print" misdirection. Still, not that big of a deal since I read the misleading ad at the pump, where I was already buying the gas. Still a good deal IF your schedule fits the restrictions.

If you head up to Stevens on a Thursday, buy your gas at Shell that day. They've got 2 for 1 vouchers with 8 gal. fillup. Just a heads up. Repeat, it needs to be a Thursday at Stevens. There are other resorts for different days, but none I recognized besides Crystal (and the Crystal deal is for Sat. night, night skiing )

Bitching about that officer not showing him enough respect is as bad as bitching about a teacher not knowing the difference between Baker and Shuksan .

Ths Bush visit to Bagdad, fake turkey or real turkey, was a good move. It was more than an empty gesture. I'm sure it helped morale of a probably quite demoralized US force over there. Though the huge coverage about the excessive amount of secrecy necessary might have helped the opposition (fighters in Iraq, not democrats) too since it demonstrated that they are not insignificant, that the big bad American President is quite scared of them. The oppositions tactic of pointing out the turkey was fake, is totally transparent to most thinking folk, but 1) it still is a nice sound bit/analogy, "yet another lie" and 2) many voters are NOT thinking folk. Thus this jab works on two levels, so I think screaming about the "fake turkey" is also a good move (if they don't go too overboard on it).

And insurance companies.

The new medicare bill makes it illegal to have extra prescription benefits via private insurance. That is, it forbids supplemental insurance specifically meant to help cover the medicare deductible.

You're such a dick I think a 5.13 route up El Cap sorta transcends the normal sprot vs tard distinktions.

They look like a PITA to rack compared to normal nutz. You basically use up two pieces with one placement. Weight would seem like the only reason you'd want these, and they probably save you about one 'biners weight total per set. I'm not buying any. Now, if I could get some of those plastic hexes, that'd be sweet.

It's a tough world out there boys. Sometimes you just have to adapt to the changes. Pining for some long begotten age where you knew the rules is just weak and lazy. You oughta just be happy the papers don't have three stories a week about guys being murdered by their jilted admirers.

Hey Ehmic, those are good questions for the doc. I took the survey and I really have no idea how any information gleaned from this thing could have any possible clinical use, except for maybe putting someone in detox the minute they say they've had a climbing injury . It may not be all "sinister health care providers wanting to find out who to exclude". Something tells me this sort of group would not bother posting to cc.com. Could very likely be a doctor who wants to get published but doesn't realize that you actually need to do a well-done study with actual relevance to get published anywhere worthwhile. I doubt it's really insurance related because those people would want real information with valid conclusions, not some USA Today poll from this nutty website. Insurance companies want to make money. They don't want to deny people the ability to give them money unless they really are sure that those people are high risk. Thus, I doubt an insurance company would be trying to unfairly smear climbers. If we're talking unfairly smearing people, it could be a lawyer involved in a trial trying to deny benfits to a climber I guess.

I think you're supposed to check the "head injury" box for those.
-
If we do this, will you publish your findings on this site? That would be the polite thing to do.

Surely none of this requires being the first ascender. None of this requires keeping quiet about your goal.
