  1. giant budget cuts this year - i might be w/ you midweek sooner than you think - course, i'll probably have to blow every hobo along the way for gas money... ...shit, i got a 3 day weekend coming up this next weekend...maybe i can get away for a night...
  2. um, i wouldn't think of luetholds as being all that committing - if you wig out you just go back down and do the climb of shame back up to illumination gap it's a very reasonable solo - takes about as much time as a standard s side climb

i don't know enough about the case to have an opinion - i recall it was kinda bullshit b/c it wasn't the state taking something for its own purposes so much as for giving it to another private group to develop, which does sound like bullshit i'm sure kennedy was the swing vote

Not by a long shot. That distinction falls to Kelo v. City of New London (2005). that's like, your opinion man might be a shitty ruling, but hardly at the heart of The Big Problem

not so, as their is some actual data that can be collected and analzyed, and experiments run there is certianly plenty of historical evidence to support the general notions that humans like to hurt, steal, kill and corrupt wether that outweighs our occasional capacity to heal, feed and clothe is debatable

i agree but speaking of human nature, i must throw stones at meself as well - i, like most, am lazy and at any rate very much caught up in the day-to-day dramas of my own humble life - i know the problem could be largely fixed with a constitutional amendment restricting campaign financing, and that the problem needs fixing, but the process of realzing such an amendment is so demanding i can't begin to summon the will to ram it home for it to work, a whole lot of dedicated people need to make it their life's work

by your own admission, the whole establishment is practically in big business' pocket, and has been for damn near a century - i don't see how it can get much worse.
  17. sounds like bolts on the variation, no? getting jim's blessing w/o a seance would be difficult too, but i know tyler's his progeny, so i'm sure he'd have blessed it

okay sunshine - good luck making a perfect world - wasn't looking for a deeply introspective moment, just an acknowledgment that, so long as people are involved in government, said gov's gonna have corruption. getting the problems out in the open and not buried under 20 feet of corporate horseshit propaganda is no doubt key to minimizing the stink.

prole, isn't the core problem that human beings are corrupt, and that any organization they form will contain elements of corruption? i do think it's a shit ruling.
  22. wait...was that the rope that's been hanging on the picnic lunch wall the past year?
  23. it probably helped that he wasn't feeling so hawt - if he had stayed (and against all odds won) a second term, and if he had still died on the same date, he woulda croaked on the day of the next guy's inauguration lbj is to me the arche-type shakespearean tragic figure - macbeth, hamlet, king lear - the don't have shit on johnson
  24. weren't the dem's accused of "losing china", of not being forceful enough in fighting global communism ('speically cuba) - however irrational, wasn't lbj completly paranoid that america would turn to goldwater if he didn't handle vietnam right? leave out vietnam and lbj's civil rights work, medicare, medicaid, pbs, war on poverty, great society, yadda, yadda, yadda (not to mention the greatest landslide in modern electoral history) and how does he not rate well? his pursuit of irrational war is the classic example of how a single flaw can fuck up every other good thing you got.
