He's a punk who snowboards down big mountains, and his agent contacted the UW climbing club about doing a show. We told him that because the University is run by a bunch of fucknuts, we can't afford to have Stephen give a show. If there's anyone else out there in Seattle who would be interested in organizing (and paying for) a show, e.g. a climbing or skiing shop, I can forward you contact info.

I have an s400 and like it a lot. I really like the 3x zoom and how small it is. Some sample pictures from it are at: http://students.washington.edu/climb/GlacierPeak/ Haven't put it to test in really cold/wet conditions yet though.

Pooing on my thread is fine, because after enough pooing, Catbirdseat will eventually say something stupid, which will be followed by hordes pooing on him... then a moderator will step in, and all pooing will gone. pooF! -

Wow, things are quickly turning to spray! Must get back on course! One of the winners is a 74-year-old dude who will be climbing Denali. Don't remember what the others were. -
Outside Magazine is having an event with Buick on Thursday. There's a reception/award ceremony for winners of the write-an-essay-on-your-dream-adventure-and-get-paid-to-go-if-you-win contest. They want a full house of cool people at the event (the person from Outside in charge of this was at Timmy O'Neill's show). Thurs Jan 15, 6:00 PM The Rainier Club (820 Fourth Ave) Here's the deal: + The event is free. + Free hors d'oeuvres and cocktails + They'll give you a one-year subscription to Outside if you want it. - They probably won't like it if you show up without RSVPing with anyone first. - You must be 21+. - Requested attire is collared shirt and slacks for men, and something equivalent for women. +++ THEY WILL GIVE $20 TO THE UW CLIMBING CLUB FOR EACH PERSON WHO RSVPS WITH ME AND THEN ATTENDS THE EVENT!!! So, email (climb@u.washington.edu) or PM me if you can come! (and let me know how many friends, SOs, relatives, nonmilitary combatants, etc., you'll be bringing)

Also, what's with modern bathrooms being so damn large? I've been in some apartments (that weren't that large) where the bathroom was probably at least 100 sq ft. My apartment has maybe 30 sq ft reserved for the bathroom... 5x3 feet for a toilet and sink on opposite ends, and 5x3 feet for a shower. Why would I want more room? Why waste the real-estate where you spend the least amount of your day?

Some metabolic processes use water; others produce water. The biggest loss of water in this scenario would be from respiration. The alveoli in the lungs operate in 100% humidity. To maintain this environment, water is lost during exhalation. The main issues with eating snow are: 1) Amount of energy (heat) that must be used to melt it. 2) The voluminous amounts of snow that melt to just a little water. btw - Dan -, if you're reading this site anonymously, and we know you are, there is scientific evidence showing that shoving an ice cube up your ass will shave minutes off your speed-climbing times.

Let me guess... a Mark Twight route?

Allison, Many of my complaints regarding bureaucracy and incompetence at the U are because I've seen things done better, either at other schools, or in my own dept as compared to the U as a whole. For example, I get $1200 in travel reimbursements signed and approved by our dept accountants, but it takes the University five months to get me my money. I don't have a corporate card; I need to pay for travel out of my own pocket. The U doesn't seem to know much about event planning either; thanks to them, we didn't have a projector for Timmy's show until about 15 minutes before, when I quickly pulled some favors in my dept (or we could have paid the U about $50 to rent one, plus a late fee). Had these morons been working for a company, they would have been fired. Had they been a company, they'd be out of business by now for their reputation of a shitty job. The Climbing Club's snowshoes are sitting in a bitch's office right now, unable to be checked out, just because the bitch is too fucking lazy to fill out two separate purchase orders. We bought the snowshoes two weeks ago. With luck, the bitch will make them available tomorrow. I apologize to all bitches out there for the fact that I have associated bitches with Sandi. I'm sure much of this shit could be present in the real world... some companies treat employees well; others don't. Bureaucracy at the U could even be compared to union jobs in the real world. "Sorry, you cannot fix that. Someone from the union needs to." As for my "misdirected" passion towards the UWCC... The UWCC used to have hundreds of members and teach courses. The UW Rock was built to keep UWCC members from climbing buildings. The UWCC played an active part in designing it. Since then, the club nearly died. We're trying to bring it back. What's wrong with that? Many of my friends and climbing partners I've met through the club. I'd like to provide students at the U with a chance to get to know the mountains and want to come back for more -- is that charitable enough for you? Maybe big shows are better left for the Mountaineers, FF, 2nd Ascent, etc., to pull off. But what's wrong with trying? The only way to figure out the best way for the UWCC to succeed is to try stuff and see what works.

I'm curious of the exact details of how we actually got him.... which I assume we may never hear. Was he asleep? Did we gas him? Did he have even half a chance to reach for a weapon? Did he have any warning of capture (i.e. noise from outside)? I am truly amazed that he was captured without any shots fired from either side.

Son, my minor at Georgia Tech was economics. That's GT, one of the best schools in the nation, consistently ranked in the top 25-30 schools overall, top 10 engineering schools, top values in education, and top graduate programs ...and top 25 in football and basketball, after recently crushing the #1 ranked UConn in hoops and bowl bound with a true freshman quarterback Now get back to your books little man and when you get out of sophomore year and beyond Keynes and aggregate demand equations, come back and talk to us. Ah, you mean the Economics certificate. I remember the days of GT... the sophomore-level weeder courses... zero partial credit on exam problems... TBS...

It was supposed to end up in General. I have no idea how it came here.

There was plenty of it tonight at Timmy's show! Be sure to stop by tomorrow for Timmy's show at the tavern!

Go to it! It's gonna rock!

So how does the system go wrong? Is it that juries are composed of 90% stupid motherfuckers, and therefore frivolous lawsuits work out? (which encourages more of them...)

There's a mention of it in Extreme Alpinism... that's the one where they came across the packs of some dead dudes from a few years earlier and hit the jackpot with some ropes and pins?

The red part the cam exists so that there is some margin of error should placements using the yellow/green walk. The cam should be made as large as possible until the tips of the cam touch the opposite side when overcammed. If the cam is made any larger, then real-estate on the cam is wasted.

My dad hurt his last year from stomping his foot on a shovel blade. He rested his foot, stretched it out, was very careful with it first thing in the morning, etc. He ran on it, but he was very careful not to do anything to apply any weird pressure on it (he had to be very careful on rocky or rooty trails). What helped him the most a few months after the injury (it never seemed to quite go away) was a cortisone shot or two.
