  1. Wow, if they actually used the term "ice tools", then they're getting better. Usually it's just "ice picks"
  2. Dru- you're absolutely correct on the steeping. and it also matters the type of tea. herbal not a caffeine problem If you're ever in Nelson, go to the co-op and pick up some Mocha Mint tea, stuff rocks. First time I had it was ina arainy tent in Skaha and I put like 10x too much leaves per water in and I remember watching the roof of the tent and half my eyesight disappeared. Visual migrain, very cool . Also happened with Tazo Zen tea driving back form Squamish at 3 am. Couldn't see the other lane. not so cool. Oh, and Mate Late rules!!! Yerba Mate too.
  3. well put I still think you guys should've taken the mines.
  4. Save $100 and get a MEC Icefall. It's lighter too and doesn't have that stupid pack-lid-into-fanny-pack crap thing that A't does. But I guess the Icefall doesn't have that "plush" hypalondynatechtra crampon patch though http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=15001&FOLDER<>folder_id=496963&bmUID=1045636852486

  9. The trick is to sharpen the end of a picket down to a mean point so you can huck it at animals for food. Easier to place, too.

  14. Depends what you consider a VBL. Twight calls a microfibre windshirt worn over polypro a VBL layer as it inhibits some moisture but not all. Having once tried to bivy in a coated VBL once in Idaho and waking up in a peculiar cold sauna, I think that a semipermeable nylon job would be a good compromise.
  15. Serratus makes a superlightweight job, marketed as a VBL, but made out of semibreathable nylon. MEC had only a couple and I picked up the last LONG size. Not on the mec or Serratus sites, but keep an eye out for it if you want a cool emerg bivy. $60 CDN kinda steep though.
