  1. Admit it, your list sucks ass too, hoser This was nowhere near the top of the list, it was just the only thing that looked like it was going to stay dry on Sunday Too bad I can't upload the video I took of Steve blowing the shit out of the Downton FSR with the dynamite. It's damn funny
  2. Ohh yeah, this one was REAL nice! Stemalot and I climbed a spur on the north face of Soprano Peak, which I'm sure everyone is familar with. See the feature in last month's issue of Beth and Tommy. It's as good as they say! Surpisingly, the first few hundred feet were good But then it got into a beautiful dirt chute, reminiscent of countless such ones I have ascended all across the PNW: Full-on 5 out of 5 shoe-emptyings on this pitch Classic! We were so enthralled with the route that we decided to blow up a small part of the area as thanks with some dynamite Stemalot had gotten ahold of somehow

    Dear Car Talk...

I would agree with Trundle it isn't the release bearing. But could your mechanic have guessed the clutch pilot bearing? It could be the pilot bearing whining at a certain RPMs. That will be a lot cheaper than a transmission synchro which is what jumped to mind. You mentioned specific speeds, but is it always at the same RPM? How about the fan shroud or a busted motor mount? More speed specific than RPM specific. I sense it is clutch related since it sometimes makes the same noise when letting it out. Also seems to be aggravated by rough roads for some reason Apparently Toyota clutches are hydraulic and cannot really be adjusted Time for a new clutch anyways

    Dear Car Talk...

I just had the bearings replaced, at the same time the noise started (so maybe he cocked up the installation?), but that tire wear idea is interesting.

    Dear Car Talk...

Another problem for the mechanically inclined: a metalic whining/scraping sound at VERY specific speeds from the front of the truck, only while it (Toyota 4Runner) is in gear. I.e. in neutral there is no sound, only in gear at 40, 60 and 80 km/hr (iie, not brakes). My mechanic gave up, guessed that it was the clutch release bearing
  24. Whatever, you weren't even there. That pitch was total garbage bear
